Your was moved from 1:30 to 4 and then cancelled 2 hours before. They did give us a partial refund and our tickets to the colosseum but it was unfortunate we didn’t get the guided part.

We were part of a party of five, had a quick introduction before heading underground. Our guide said she was unable to come with us so without having any audio guide we were left with no information was just told to walk through , it was lucky there was another larger group all with headsets and we were fortunate to be able to listen to his information otherwise we would have been lost. Poorly arranged and with the price asked not value for money, we left the tour earlier than arranged. It’s a shame because we had been so looking forward to it. Not like Viator to get bad guides.

Very disappointed in this tour company. Their communication was poor and they didn’t have contingency plans.
    There were two big issues:
1 – The tour company changed our tour time without contacting us.
2 – The guide canceled due to I illness, which we learned about when we arrived.
Very disappointing after reserving this tour many weeks in advance.
This also happened with another tour provided by City Wonders that left us without a guided tour…very disappointing.

Overall we thought the tour was good, the beginning was a bit unorganized and we had a hard time understanding our tour guide. For the underground portion the tour guide sent us on our way freely and didn’t really give us an explanation as to why? When we went back to the main level he met back up with us and we enjoyed most of the rest. Keep in mind this tour is 3 hours long and a lot of walking.

Viator cancelled my confirmed tour of the Colosseum in Rome 3 times!! I booked 5 months in advance for my Honeymoon and they cancelled 3 weeks out, rebooked me twice – then cancelled 12 hours before our tour when we were already in Rome. Their tour operators are not trustworthy or reliable. They could not get us rebooked after we moved our trip schedule around at our own expense to accommodate the only dates they could rebook us for. It was sold out and all they could do is suggest we stay another week for an open date. They would not put me on the phone with a manager because they were busy – assuming dealing with other customers with the same issue.

Amazing.. The tour guide, Anna, sadly walked off a bit, not very patient, she did not seem to know what she was doing. The tour guide for the underground was very informative and patient.
Overall, a must do. It was fantastic.

First, they told us that they needed to cancel our tour we had booked for the morning and offered to re-book in the afternoon. We switched plans around to accommodate them, but made it work. Then, we get an email night before the new afternoon tour saying, sorry, your afternoon tour got canceled again last minute as well. We spent over an hour on the phone just to get the promise of you can have your ticket, but no tour. When we got to the meeting point, there were several tours from the exact same company at the exact same time as ours was supposed to be. We were just “unlucky” that ours was canceled. One worker did admit that several guides decided to not show up to work because of the Giro di Italia bike ride that day. I admit company can’t control that, but when you fly half way across the world to see these things, it would be nice if they just added us into one of the many, many other guided tours they had going at the time. At least we still got a ticket and entered the Colosseum on our own.

It was the best experience by far. Our guide was thoughtful, knowledgeable and amazing. Took time to make sure we understood

This was the worse experience ever, City Wonder LTD cancelled our semi private tour the morning of and offered use the skip the line tickets only, for a partial refund, but upon our arrival to get our tickets they cancelled those as well. Now we are fighting with them to get our full refund. We waisted half the day trying to find another tour that would take us to see the colosseum last minute and didn’t even get to go underground.

We paid over $500.00 for this tour. Once we arrived in Rome they contacted and changed the time of our tour. Once we arrived at the arena we had to meet the guide outside. They didn’t have all of our tickets, the tickets had the wrong names. We were told to go to gate 3 inside to meet our guide. The guide inside said we were not part of the tour and that City Wonders (This is the Italian group Viator uses) were not authorized to provide tours for the Colosseum. When we contacted Viator all they said was they would refund the money. We called the Italian and the USA numbers we were given. Thousands of miles from home and the one exclusive tour we booked completely ruined and the company had no concern. We went back to the meeting spot and the gentleman from the tour was packed up and gone. I have yet to recieve the refund. Advice DO NOT USE VIATOR unless you want to be scammed!

Our tour was pushed a few hours, at the last minute. Then the guide did not show up. They gave us the option to give us our entrance tickets anyway, saying we would still have access to everything. Which is true, but was extremely complicated and stressful and we always had to explain and insist. Sommuch so that we only went to the coliseum and not to the other stuff. So, a small group morning tour with guide for 3 exibits was transformed into an extremely hot afternoon, without any information or knowledge, stressfull time. They said they would refund partially, but 3 days later I have not yet received anything, even though I sent them an email asking for total refund at this point. Would not recommend this tour provider ever.

By far the biggest disappointment in our 13 day Mediterranean trip. Since we were out of the country I did not have access to my emails, we had no idea of the change in our tour. We planned our entire day around this early morning, semi private group of the underground, arena, forum tour. This was the first tour I booked months ago, knowing we wanted to go underground and first thing in the morning to avoid the large crowds. So excited only to find out at 8:30 that we had to come back at 3:00 for our tour. No other details were given and no other option at that time. Had to totally rearrange our day but this was the ONE thing we wanted to see in Rome. We arrived back at 2:15 and were told we needed to wait until 2:45 to check in (nothing was mentioned about it not being the tour we had booked). After sitting and watching the other tours line up, I went back to one of the guides to make sure we were still in a semi private tour. It was at that time I was told there was no tour, BUT, we could do the underground on our own, and they would “try” to get us into another tour for the rest of the tour. We didn’t want to do the underground on our own…..we wanted to actually learn all about it by someone who knew details. Carlo explained City Wonders only has the tour guide that was on our tour to do the underground and they had just found out an hour ago that he was not coming. Not sure if I really believe that since we were bumped from our 8:40 tour. I got mad at myself for not asking more questions in the morning.
By this point we were so angry that we decided to just get a total refund and pass on seeing the rest of the Colosseum in a large group, with hords of people since it was 3:00 at that point, and still not assurance we would be able to even fit on one of the tours.
City Wonders was such a huge disappointment. Throughout our trip we dealt with many private tour companies without one glitch. By far…….City Wonders was the worst. The gentleman I spoke with did apologize for the inconvenience, but the guide who was “in charge” basically had a “take it or leave it” attitude. He spoke to Carlo (I believe that was the man I spoke with) in Italian so I could not understand what they were saying, and I knew it was not good. Once he was done talking to Carlo, he walked away……did not even have the decency to talk to us directly. Although Carlo apologized and said he understood our disappointment, I’m not sure they really can. To wait a lifetime to get to Rome and then the one tour we were so excited about turned into a disaster, really leaves a very sour taste. We will never get back to Rome but I can tell you City Wonders will be the lasting memory about the Colosseum. Such a shame……

Unfortunately this was not a good experience. We were originally scheduled for the morning but that slot was canceled. We were moved to 12 noon but when we arrived there was no guide and we were told to go in and do the experience on our own. When we entered we were not allowed in to the underground area or the Arena. Our only option was to follow the loop and exit. This for the most point was very disappointing. We understand that there was an issue with staffing. We would have liked a more honest update before we were hassled by colosseum staff.

We had a tour scheduled for 8:50 on June 11 that we booked on February 14, 2024. 4 days prior to leaving for Italy we were moved to a new time with no explanation. Tour guide didn’t show for 2pm and we were left with no tour.

  15. Margaret_O

Unfortunately we had no guide to take us through the underground area, we were very disappointed. Took photos but no idea what of 😔

  16. Karen_M

The guide did not show up and we had to fend for ourselves on the tour. We are only in Rome for a limited amount of time and other tickets for this experience were sold out. I booked my tickets for this experience months in advance. Since the guide did not show up, our experience at the colosseum was definitely sub-par.

  17. jane_p

We arrived at the Colosseum to be advised that there was no guide for the tour,as there was no warning and we were tavelling home the next day we were unable to rebook-They agreed that a refund would be given aside from the core ticket price which was £23.60,it was disappointing as walking around the Colosseum Roman Forum and Palantine Hills without a guide is quite frankly pointless.Just received an e mail to say our refund has been refused, deadful service will not book with Vaitor ever again.

City Wonders was the tour company Viator transferred us too. City wonders tour guide did not show up. This was the second City Wonders tour that was cancelled in Rome. They did however organise for us to have a tour with another company and gave us a partial credit.

Was told my tour was canceled when I showed up for it. No emails, phone calls, voicemails, nothing to let us know it was canceled. We booked six months in advance and it was our second of two tours we booked to be canceled while in Rome. Viator hung up on me three times while they were trying to figure out what else they could book since mine was canceled. They still had a private tour available to book on their website for €1200/person, so I could book that the day before we were supposed to go, but the €210/person tour they canceled.

Original booking time got changed 2 days before then the guide did not show up. Not impressed at all.
