Colosseum is such an amazing place. The guide did a great job pointing out the technology used in the underground to move animals, props & gladiators to the arena floor. The history & political reasons for the games in the Colosseum was explained in great detail

We booked our tour through Viator with no refunds and no changes. When we checked in to get our tickets and meet our guide at the right time, we were told by Explore Italy our tour time had been changed and they contacted me on what’s app. I had no message from them and the same thing happened to another family. The tour was good and the guides knowledgeable. But we had scheduled another short tour four hours after this one was supposed to end. The result was that we had to rush out of the forum to get to our next stop. Viator only resells the tours- they do not actually guide anyone. I don’t appreciate the no refund, no changes policy but they can change without notice.

This was a great tour! The underground tour of the coliseum was very cool. The whole family loved it. We got to see the different levels and take plenty of photos. Our kids (ages 10 and 8) were interested the whole time. There was not much time spent in the tour at the forum after we left the coliseum, but it was perfect for us, and once in the forum you can spend as much time as you want after the tour ends. The view from palatine hill is amazing. Our guide Giorgio was very friendly and knowledgeable.

Our guide started off exactly when we were to begin , he spoke excellent English and gave us an everlasting tour of the coliseum. He took every moment to explain and answer everyone. Original tour was for 845A. We arrived only to be told that our tour changed to 11 without them giving us any notice. We then had to miss another place we had planned to visit, time wasn’t in our favor. As for tour itself it was a nice experience with a lot of information. Downfall there was no breaks to take pics or use bathroom. Some older couples were struggling.

Seeing the underground area of the Colosseum was quite fascinating. Hearing about how the animals and fighters would be lifted to the arena floor by manual lifts powered by slaves was remarkable. It is quite unimaginable that so much of the Colosseum structure is still standing after all of these years.

Touring the underground of the colosseum was well worth the money! Guide gave so much info on how this portion was organized and it really allowed for a better understanding of the great engineering of this incredible ancient site. There are smaller crowds and you skip line at entrances which is a time saver for sure. My family greatly enjoyed this day and seeing an “extra” part was well worth it. Because we had to wait on another tour group to join us for the Roman Forum, we did not have as much time with the guide inside there but it wasn’t her fault – the tour company added that to her schedule at the last minute. But she still took us to a portion of the forum with a recently restored temple ruin restored during Covid shutdown that was not crowded and very beautiful. Well worth the additional knowledge and insight you gain plus the added value to navigating the huge crowds at these sites.

The tour with Carmelo was excellent. He shared a great deal of information with us about the Colosseum throughout its history. He kept the tour moving without sacrificing any of the important information. It was a great tour and I would highly recommend Carmelo as the tour guide for this important treasure in Rome.

Due to a cycling event around the Colosseum on the Sunday that we booked, there were road closures. Although there were police controlling the passage to get across the road; they kept us waiting in the heat and burning sun for 45 mins before allow us to cross. Just being rude to everyone and abusing their power the whole time. Our guide tried very hard to get us to cross but they simply wouldn’t let us even though there was nothing happing with the cycling competition. We missed our entry to the underground and the Colosseum refused to allow us entry even though our guide explained what just happened to us. Visitor said they would refund a portion of the tour but two weeks later I am still waiting. The first half was a walk through the forum and was meant to be an hour and half. We spent 45 mins in there. Basically saw very little of what the forum has to offer. I wouldn’t book through visitor again. I would have been better off doing it all on my own.
It was very strange that we had to walk all the way to the forum then back all the way to the ticket office to get the tickets to the Colosseum to only walk all the way back to the Colosseum where the forum tour ended. If we were able to stay there we would never have missed the underground. I don’t know why we were made to go back to the office again. It was a shambles of a day and really did dampen what was meant to be an amazing experience of the Colosseum and the underground.
