Our tour was changed several times from our original booking until our actual tour. Although we were grateful to get access to the colosseum, we never did get the underground tour that we signed up for. It was also very unprofessional that the tour organizers and guides were smoking while organizing the tour group. This was a very marginal experience at best.

We did the day tour of the Colosseum the day before. This helped with knowing some of the history. This evening tour gave a new perspective of the Colosseum… from below and with the magic of the evening. The tour lasted an hour and our guide was very knowledgeable and patient w our many questions.

The tour itself was amazing. The guide was very knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about the architecture and history. This was a bucket list item for me. However, I very nearly didn’t get to experience it.
My booking through Viator was with Gemini Tours, who first booked me for 19:30, then got in touch to say that was a mistake and they only offer that timeslot in winter. No problem, switched to 21:20. I was then contacted twice with details for the 22:00 tour. First time, they said the message wasn’t meant for me and I was definitely on the 21:20 tour. Second time, I got in touch to confirm what was going on the day before the booking. Was told I had been moved to the 22:00 tour.
Got to the meeting point, met the very nice Gemini coordinator, try to get into the Colosseum… my ticket says 21:20 and they can’t let me in. Nearly a full half hour of back and forth with the tour company, who apologised but were at a loss of how to fix it. Eventually got a new ticket and but what a load of chaos.

My time was changed to a later time without asking me,, when I saw the confirmation message it was an hour+ later than I had booked. The guide was a little late but very good and informative, not too enthusiastic a guide but passionate about the history,. I enjoyed it overall, best thing was avoiding all the crowds by going at night which was the best part of this tour.

Experiencing the Colosseum at night is amazing and well worth the money. There are very few people around and the photo opportunities are excellent. I’m not sure what the “VIP Experience” is supposed to be. Our group and several others were put together to make one big group. I’m not sure who the guide is affiliated with as we all purchased tickets through different operators.
All that said, the tour was great and our guide was very nice and knowledgeable. The main downside is that with the night tours you can only visit the underground and the arena floor. You can’t get to the upper level.
Also, the night tour is apparently only available Thursday- Saturday. We originally booked for Sunday and had to reschedule.
