Unfortunately, this experience wasn’t great for my fiancé and I. We were informed a week earlier that our underground tour was canceled due “unforeseen technical issues”, so we were offered a 20% partial refund for an alternative tour, the Colosseum Gladiator’s Arena and Ancient Rome Full Experience. The experience was supposed to include: Exclusive Access to Colosseum Via Gladiator’s Gate, Colosseum Arena Floor, Colosseum Ground Floor, Colosseum Upper Level, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, with a later start time. A few things that bothered me…
    1. While we were there, we saw groups on the underground tour so the “technical issues” excuse was at the fault of Tours of Rome.
    2. We did not see a majority of the Roman Forum and none of Palatine Hill. I understand the nature of tours is just to see the highlights, but when I asked our guide, she dismissed me saying that most of her tours prefer to see the ruins from the bottom and that we were short on time. Yes, that all may be so, but it is misleading to say groups will be taken to palatine hill if we are not given the option to do so. My fiancé and I bought last minute super passes for the Roman forum and went the following day, which I would highly recommend. There was so much more to the palatine hill than we’d even thought!
    3. We felt herded through the standard route all tour groups take, even if that meant waiting for 10 minutes in the rain for groups to rotate through a gallery that wasn’t nearly as interesting as the sites outside.
    4. The quality of the listening devices isn’t great. It was difficult to understand our guide.
All in all, we were very excited for this underground tour, slightly disappointed when we had to take the downgrade option, and even more so when we received a subpar version of that. The best part of this tour was that it ended in the Colosseum, so we had the chance to explore on our own afterwards.

Our tour guide, Christina, was excellent and very knowledgeable. She enthusiastically told a story and was so animated and interesting. Our original tour was supposed to include the Underground but was changed due to limited availability beyond their control. I was disappointed at first, but after the tour realized we didn’t miss a thing and the new tour that was provided (with a discount initiated by Viatour without us asking) was perfect. Our tour guide offered to take pictures which we gladly accepted, our group size was 9 people which was much smaller than I
Expected for “small group” description. I highly recommend this tour and have had several extremely positive experiences with Viatour. Also, I rarely write reviews but feel compelled to reward such a great experience.

Great tour. Rain towards the end – but still had a great time. Christina was excellent. Very knowledgeable and loved how she told the story.

The best way to see the Colosseum in my opinion. So much information and detail was provided and our guide LOVED what she was describing to us. She had such a passion that it made the experience that much better. And getting to see the underground was better than bypassing it to save time. Worth the journey down!

The original trip was cancelled and this was a substitute. The location of the tour was difficult. There was no skip the line access. We left the tour 1/2 way thru as we couldn’t understand the guide thru the thick accent. It was a waste of momey

If you want the full back story of the Roman Forum this trip is for you. We spent almost an hour in the forum only stopping in 3 places. Our your guide was knowledgeable but too much time standing in one spot. We only spent a bit at the colosseum which was the main point in going. We paid for vip underground which was cancelled but we noticed other tours below the arena. Viator did a partial refund but it was disappointing.

Hard to find the group. Tour guide didn’t have a flag or identifying object to find her in the crowds. She would snack and we heard very loud chewing in our ear pieces when did that. Other tours had flags or a way to find in the crowds. The ear pieces were great to hear except when she was crunching.

The Colusseum is an amazing, must see place. Skip the line was totally worth the price of the tour. Our tour guide was hard to I understand and kind of “dry” in her presentation, but all in all a good tour.

Our small group tour was cancelled and we accepted an alternative colosseum tour which proved to be a mistake.
We were placed in a group of 12 with a guide with questionable historical knowledge.
After being dragged around Paletine Hill and surrounding area in the afternoon heat of Rome, a bid to fill time until our 3:45 entry to a colosseum, we then joined a mile long queue, estimated, to gain entry. At this point, hot, tired and frustrated, we ended our tour early and sacrificed our entry to the colosseum. Next time we visit Rome, we will make our own arrangements.

I did not get what I expected. When I booked, I had to jump through hoops to get a tour for our family of 12, being told that exceptions needed to be made. After many phone calls, because customer service was sub par in returning calls and having information, I was told we were able to have a small group tour, which would include the underground of the Colosseo, and paid for that. Well, when we arrived, the tour was a group of 32! I am beyond dissatisfied with Viator and will be quite vocal about their bait and switch method.

Our guide was called Midos and I cannot recommend him enough. He was full of information and you could tell that he enjoyed his job. You could ask him questions and he always knew the answer. It’s was a very pleasant trip

This tour was very chaotic due to all the different tour groups milling around! It was extremely easy to get separated from the group. Our tour guide, while very pleasant, seemed to be in a constant rush! We did find out that he had to repeat the tour with a new group when he finished with our tour.
Also our tour was canceled twice! Then the original one was reopened after we had already scheduled a new one!
We we’re very disappointed in this tour.

Amazing experience. Knowledgeable and friendly guides. Would definitely recommend this! We walked under the floor of the arena.

This tour was very disappointing. The booking company rescheduled our tour and did not include the underground portion. The tour guide either didn’t know any information about the sites or didn’t speak English. The extent of her information was which stones were original and which walls or floors were “important” never did she tell us why they were important. Somehow we did not have time to view the artifacts near the Colosseum but we had 10 minutes to sit in front of a movie. I wish I could give this tour group negative stars.

The Colosseum and history around it was the highlight of the trip. However we had booked to see the lower areas but our tour was altered before the due date. We were compensated for the inconvenience though. The guide was informative.

Great guide! Great tour! The area is so amazing and you really could spend a whole day walking around it. The guide was able to make sure we hit the highlights though.

Standing on the floor of the Coliseum was awesome. I could visualize 80,000 spectators in my minds eye. The guide brought the Coliseum to life

It was very easy to find our guide at the starting point. Our guide was very informative and easy to follow along with.
