The guide was an Archaeologists. The employees who worked the gates all smiled and knew her by first name. She was very knowledgeable about the Colosseum and wasn’t just bluffing.
She was very relaxed and quick on her feet because it’s a huge space to explore. She also did great pictures for our group and – tour guys never have multiple skills.
Extremely knowledgeable ! We believe we had the best tour out of all the tours we seen walk pass us.
THE VR EXPERIENCE was the most updated 3d technology for visual learners out their in the market. I loved it – mother thought it was strange. I see it being a big hit in a few years.

Really disappointed with this tour. The VR is absolutely useless. You are not allowed to use it in the Colosseum and there are only 3 total exterior and interior images. The “VR” box (where the phone w the app goes in) were given to one per family (when we paid for 3) and the box is too small to hold my iPhone. The entire VR experience was disappointing especially since I picked this tour for the VR aspect. Next, our guide was not engaged, had little knowledge beside from the basic (that we could have read from the signs/pamphlets), her explanations were too wordy/ not concise, and voice was difficult to hear in our very small group. The overall explanation was poor at all 3 locations. Absolutely disappointed as we have had great tour guides in Rome who were incredible.

Look no further for other Colosseum tours. Book this one. For a slightly higher price we got a 6 people group, very intimate experience with our guide Giulia. She spoke English clearly and fluently, shared facts such as naval battles, gladiators’ lives and even why there were holes in the columns etc. with personable storytelling. She also answered all of our questions like “wouldn’t a senator be jumped by a lion if they sat so close to the arena” with great patience. 3.5 hours flew by. We saw other “small group tours” passing by, each were like 20-30 people wearing earpieces, with a guide talking to the air in the front. Instead of that, we got personalized attention with a real small group. Others commented the VR part was a gimmick. I indeed wouldn’t expect too much of a VR experience, however VR is not the point of this tour, it’s just a visualization tool to help our amazing guide Giulia to tell the story better. This tour is worth every penny. Just do it!

Warning: if you go in the afternoon bring lots of water and a hat. I got heatstroke for the first time which hit me about an hour of the tour and ruined my last day in Rome. Better yet, book the morning tour.
