disappointed as we booked for a semi private with no more then 10 people and had 16 people in the tour. Was supposed to get a discount but received nothing .

On the plus side our guide, Guiseppe, was excellent. Very passionate about what he does, even though he’s been doing it for about 8 years. Funny as well as informative, I couldn’t fault him.
On the down side, our tour was supposed to be semi-private with no more than 10 in the tour. However, because a group of people were running late and had been allocated to a later tour, myself and a group of 3 girls who had actually turned up on time were added on to another tour, so there was actually 14 of us. While this didn’t really detract from the experience it was not what I had been promised and not what I had paid extra for.
In addition to this, St Peter’s Basilica was closed because of a religious service. While I appreciate this can happen and it’s nobody’s fault I do think that a partial refund should have been offered as a big chunk of the tour was missed out and we finished shortly after 11am. Guiseppe told us a way to get into the Basilica without queuing when it did open at 1pm and was very apologetic, however I didn’t really want to wait nearly two hours and so I didn’t see it. I did think about waiting in the cafe but, predictably, it was very overpriced and from seeing what the other diners were having and their facial expressions not worth the money at all!
So 10/10 for Guiseppe but 5/10 for the overall experience.

Allesandra was a wonderful guide who led our group through a very chaotic tour of the Vatican and St Peters cathedral. She was very knowledgeable and did her best to give us an efficient tour.

Great tour. However paid for semi-private tour and there was approximately 18-20 people in our tour group, supposed to be <10. We were informed we would receive some money back. Nothing as of yet?

Fabulous once in a lifetime tour through the Vatican museums and chapels with a highly knowledgeable tour guide! Elena has so many interesting stories to share! Don’t miss thus one!

Our guide Alessandra was GREAT! Despite the crowds, she found quiet spots to stop and show us the amazing treasures of the Vatican Museum. She gave us details about the Sistine Chapel in advance of our visit. And the tour concluded in St. Peter’s basilica, where she got us close to the Pietà. The tour was fantastic

We stopped in Rome for two days and booked the semi-private tour (6 people) of Vatican, chapel and basilica. When we arrived at meeting spot, we were told they were missing guides so several groups would be combined. Our group had 18+ people and we could not hear or keep up with the guide who raced us through. We don’t know what we were looking at and finally gave up and turned in our headsets and left. Horrible experience.

Paula was wonderful but her accent made it hard to understand some portions of the tour. There is so much to see so don’t expect to see everything. If you want to take your time in the museum I would suggest a self guided tour. The skip the line passes were excellent though. The basilica was breathtaking and you could spend as much time as you wanted. I wish we knew you couldn’t re-enter the museums without purchasing another ticket and getting in line beforehand though.

They are completely incompetent. I booked two tours and they screwed up both, including a last minute cancelation. Stay away.

We did this tour on Wednesday 31st may . It was billed as a tour of the Vatican Sistine chapel and st Peter’s basilica. We did the first two but because it was Wednesday we did not get the tour of st Peter’s in fact we ended up queuing for over an hour to get in to st Peter’s which we then had to show ourselves around . It was not the guide’s fault. The company should not sell this tour for Wednesday as you don’t get the full tour

We booked a small group tour for the Vatican and ended up with 20+ because they were short tour guides. Definitely a disappointment…

Very informative guide and beautiful day! Loved being back in Rome and seeing St Peter’s and Sistine Chapel . Totally enjoyed for a third time but nice this time to have a small group tour and a guide!

A mess from minute one. Sorry. I hate to be a Negative Nancy but it was the worst tour of an entire 2 week experience with a lot of tours. Our Semi-private tour guide “didn’t show up” so we got combined with 3 other semi-private tours. Our guide was hard to hear and when numerous people asked nicely for him to move his mic higher he was rude. When we asked the guide to slow down so we could at least take a picture – again he was rude. There was a couple in the group that was 70+ yrs old using canes and he was rude to them when asked to slow down. Most of the tour finally gave up and turned in their headsets and left. The guide at one point got very upset saying it was only a 2 hour tour – when in reality it was a 3 hour tour that he later acknowledged. The entire tour was also so completely overcrowded with shuffle room only it was miserable. We were shuffled into the Sistine Chapel and yelled at the whole time to be quiet and no pictures. The only delight was when we finally made it into St. Peters Basilica and had 2 inches to breathe. All in all – I won’t ever go back and will warn people of the mess the whole experience is regardless of the tour company.

Our semi private tour was combined with a large group tour when we arrived at our check in spot. We couldn’t understand our guide half the time and was rushed through the tour. Would not use City Wonder as a guide ever again.

  15. Rosanne_L

The meeting point was organized well. The guide was very good. The guide honored our request to see Raffaello’s rooms.

We had a problem with our guide and we were added to another group. The guide was awesome and we had a wonderful experience. Great experience!!!

Said small private group. 30 people in group!! Paid for small group. Told we would get some $ back. I know Vatican is so busy. But group size hard to follow. Most of tour was going through museum. No stopping. You just could not see anything. Herded through like lambs to the slaughter. Hated every moment. Guide ok. If you could find her. But again due to the many tourists. Left tour early. Gave up. But I must stress So many people at end of the day even more pressure. Not impressed with Viator. Big let down in Rome.

Excellent tour with a very knowledgeable guide. We saw everything we were hoping to see, and more. We loved the museum, the map room and the Sistine Chapel. She told us so many things about the basilica.

  19. Salvatore_T

We booked and paid extra for a semi private tour of 8 to 10 people but they put us in a massive group of 24 people. Not suitable for really absorbing all of the things to see. The tour guide was very pleasant.

  20. brett_s

Cosmo was fantastic, but the tour had 20+ people. Very crowded, and not “small group”. Would not recommend Viator for your trip to Rome.
