Loved the semi private after hours tour! The guide was friendly and very knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend this tour as well as the tour company.

  2. Karmen_T

Our guide Lucia R. Was so knowledgeable and so excited to share her knowledge it made it such a joy to see it through her eyes! It was my second trip – but my daughters first. They loved the experience.

Mario was fabulous! This tour was truly the highlight of our trip. He made the tour fun and engaging. We learned more about Greek and Roman art history in one night than we’ve learned in our entire two week trip. We’ve found ourselves going to other museums, pointing out things we notice about the sculptures because of Mario’s informative tour. Also, to see the Vatican at night is the only way to tour it. The Sistine Chapel was empty compared to how it is during the daytime. I could not recommend this tour enough! Thanks Mario for a fantastic time!

The tour guide was focused on the historical succession of Popes and gave little commentary on the incredible art. Very poorly paced. We stood outside in the dark in front of a guide to the Sistine Chapel art while the guide talked about scenes we could not see in the dark. The guide had no art knowledge, as we breezed by paintings by Dali, Pollock, Chagall, Picasso without slowing down. We were told to come back on another visit to see ‘that stuff’. Some exhibits are closed after hours. Keep in mind that you are getting out late and the Taxis will try to take advantage. It cost me E11 for a Taxi to get there and all the Taxi’s in the Cue at 20:30 were trying to charge E38 to get back. Bandito’s! I waited until a cab pulled up that would get me to the hotel for the correct price. Not a good situation as you are waiting in an area late at night where you could easily be robbed.Get a Skip the Line Tour for the day and an audio guide. You’ll get more out of the tour and be safer.

I booked a night tour of the Vatican just for the novelty. Little did I know it would be the best Vatican tour I have ever had. Our guide, John Tinto, had over 30 years experience as a guide and his knowledge of the Vatican seemed to be unlimited.
The night tour was Wonderful. No crowds, unlimited time in the various rooms, hallways and Sistine Chapel.
I recommended this tour with John Tinto as your guide even if you have visited the Vatican several times. The night tour visits areas of the Vatican that are closed to guests during the day and John makes the history of the Vatican come alive.

Well organized. Great experience with our tour guide John and our group of 11. We weren’t rushed or pressed by crowds so we could truly take in the immensity of the Vatican Museum’s collection. We learned much from John’s explanations to help us better appreciate the Sistine Chapel and other major art and history. Make sure you follow the instructions on the confirm to meet at the correct location outside the Vatican for a smooth experience.

This evening tour is simply amazing – we were welcomed to the Viator office with a glass of Prosecco before proceeding across the street in our small group of eight. There are limited numbers in the museum on a Saturday evening allowing you to actually look properly at all the wonderful paintings, statues and tapestries in an environment which is far more peaceful than the hugely overcrowded days. Our tour guide Sylvia was magnificent- her knowledge of history across the whole of Europe was astounding and I was hanging on her every word. There were plenty of anecdotes and humour thrown in there too. I hadn’t expected to love the museums as much as I did but I left wanting more and will no doubt return someday. The magnitude of the history is overwhelming when you have a tour guide who is so passionate about the subject matter. Thank you Sylvia for a wonderful experience.

Wow, this tour did not disappoint! We were greeted with a glass of bubbly and some snacks while we waited for our tour to start. Our guide, Mario, was a treat to have! He was so knowledgeable, kind, funny and kept things interesting! The Vatican itself it absolutely a must see, but doing a guided tour made it 100 times better!

I have been using Viator for years and usually have a grand experience not that this was really that awful it was just so rushed …it ended almost an hour earlier than what was stated on the ticket…the guide spent too much time outside in lobby explaining .. I get we can’t talk in the Sistine chapel…the guide was very knowledgeable but really rushed the information we flew through rooms and didn’t even acknowledge some…which I understand in the museum you can’t go to everything but things that were supposed to be included got very very rushed more than normal …I’ve been to the Vatican three times so I understand this but it was not a very good experience

Our guide Anna was very friendly and knowledgeable about the collections. The private tour experience was perfect as we were able to really have a conversation and ask questions freely. The nighttime aspect was also a great experience, with much smaller crowds than when I have visited in the past in daytime.

Loved this tour, small group with audio kits so we could really hear our super informed and charming tour guide Gabriel. He was knowledgeable, energetic, accomodating (I was traveling with my 83 year old mother). A beautiful evening with way fewer people in the evening, so that you can actually see the Sistine chapel and some of the special highlights in the museums without the hoards of people. This is definitely a great introduction to the vast collection at the Vatican. No lines, fewer people, great tips and information. Would definitely recommend this tour.

  12. Carol_M

The Vatican Museums are a wealth of almost overwhelming creative beauty. It takes a smiling, knowledgeable and energetic guide like Gabriel to bring it all to life, in a coherent and truly enjoyable manner.

  13. Diana_S

Absolutely fantastic guide who made the history digestible and fun. we were so happy to have done the after hours tour to avoid crowds. Another bonus was the easy to find office to meet the group and guide before venturing out to the Vatican.

  14. Luis_L

The museum and Sistine chapel are just amazing, but the organization prior to the entry it’s not the best.

  15. srbibo

The tour with Mario was exceptipnal! He was extremely knowledgeable, personable and overall a great guide. I would highly recommend this tour!

  16. Benedict_A

Mario was very engaging and informative. Just the right size for a tour group and just the right length. Highly recommended!

I am late in writing this review, but it was an excellent tour and our guide Laura was very informative. The VIP after-hours tour is definitely for the historian at heart. Without the crowds, you can really take your time to learn more about the paintings and artists, as well as have your questions answered. A great tour that my friends and I are still talking about. Will definitely do it again when we return to Rome next summer.

  18. Kathleen_O

So glad we chose the evening tour!. Easy viewing with a fraction of the daytime crowds. Our guide, John, was brilliant. Very knowledgeable and a great storyteller.

  19. Mary_W

This was the best tour of the Vatican I have had and I have been there 3 times. It was still crowded, but not nearly as crowded as the general tours which consisted of being herded through with throngs of people. We had skip the line tickets on those occasions, but that was a misnomer. What made this after hours tour exceptionally great was our amazing guide. Mario was the very best tour guide we have ever had and we travel a lot. His English was impeccable and he has studied history, art and theater. We learned so much and we had a delightful theatrical performance, as well. Hope you are lucky enough to get Mario as your guide. Only negative was that the evening tour does not include the basilica.
