The coliseum is full of activity and people so be prepared to be early. The meet up location was on a street corner near the Coliseum on a upper level street. Not clear who or where to meet. They said there would be a sign but it wasn’t visible because our guides were trying to help other guests get to the meet up location.
Not really clear but our group of 23 went into the line and once there we got split up into two groups. The first group went in and our half went to a different entrance. needless to say we got turned away and the young guide sent for his boss. He too got turned away and we went to a third entrance. Where after a little while he got us in.
Now 40 minutes after our start time we are in. We link in with the guide and she starts her tour. She was nice and the headphones they provide are a plus because there is so much activity. She was able to communicate with the group.
Another 40 minutes on and we tapped out. We were walking through a museum area where the presentation focused on mock ups of the Coliseum rather than the actual artifacts. Lost me and wasn’t following. The presentation was lacking and we left the tour.
Ended up walking around for another 40 minutes and took it all in. My recommendation is to do this on your own.

Unfortunately we were not able to attend the tour due to a train accident that stopped ALL train travel. We were coming from Florence to Rome the morning of our tour. When we arrived to the station all trains were canceled. I reached out to Viator right away to inform the tour guide. Unfortunately they didn’t refund our money. We had no control of the situation, we wanted to be there! Oh well

Still a short wait but skips the main queues, guided tour within the Coliseum very informative. Would recommend.

This was a very disappointing tour. Our guide had a folded umbrella raised for us to see to keep us together. To say the least, it didn’t work. We got separated from the group twice! Someone else would had gotten left if we had not waved them down. After the second time we left. And then had to contact the tour owner to return the headphones.

Great tour. We had Giovanni as a tour guide who knew so much great information, we would recommend doing this tour.

Booked the group tour of the Colosseum only. We were put into a group of maybe 20 or more guests. The other guests were doing the Colosseum, Forum & Palantine Hill. It was weird they split us up into 2 groups to enter different gates since the tickets had different start times on them. I’ve done 3 tours in the last 12 months & this was the worst one. The guide was sweet but I didn’t like the tour. Lots of stopping at the information cards & not information given about the actual colosseum.

No office meeting the tour guide person in a park. You really don’t want me to go on. Don’t use Viator in Rome.

We purchased a 1 hour skip the line tour. Didn’t realize until after 1+ hours we had been placed in a 3 hour tour. Therefore we left the tour as our driver was waiting. The audio boxes did not work for the majority of the guests. We had no commentary as a result. Very disappointing as we heard no history of the Colosseum. Have contacted Viator for a refund.

A brilliant tour!! We had a wonderful tour guide who brought the past to life. She was also easy to talk to, friendly and helpful. I can’t remember her name but she had blonde hair, possibly Elvi.
There was a mix of ages in our group and I really feel it was suitable for all. Our guide shared a lot of information from different eras to give us a full perspective of the Colosseum’s history. My children thoroughly enjoyed it too.

Nice to skip the line and have some to follow around , but The guide had such a heavy accident, “ English” she was hard to understand, and hard to figure out the history or what we were looking at without google.
She did a great job of point out all the marble! “No time for bathrooms or you would be lost.

We could not hear the tour guide on the headsets and everyone on the tour experienced interference on the channel. Also the tour guide’s English was challenging to understand and he spoke too low. I wish we were with a tour guide that did not use headsets and spoke louder to the group. That is what we saw with other groups and you could understand them. Also the tour was not extended to inside the arena. $119 per ticket was WAY overpriced for this tour; basically it was self guided with no information provided,

We had a very knowledgeable guide. She kept us interested the entire time. The equipment this company uses is good and the staff we great as well. Highly recommend.

We have enjoyed our tour of Colleseum with Stephano immensely. He was very effective at getting our group through the lines and around other tourists and gave a lot of interesting facts about construction of Colleseum, the games, and history of ancient Rome. We also appreciated that headsets worked very well. Thank you!

We did the tour with pallatine Hill, forum and Colloseum with Eviss and she was fantastic. She had great stories and information to share with us the whole time. We had a number of people stop for toilet breaks and drop off the tour as it was quite warm and she was very patient. She spent plenty of time with us as planned and was on time. The only thing to make it absolutely amazing is if she had a book showing old photos for some reference to help us understand even more.
I also don’t recommend buying the arena access as you get down to that level anyway. If you can try and get the underground tour.

  15. Jason_C

Our tour guide didn’t show up. We were handed paper tickets to SEE the colosseum. Nobody to guide us, we were not allowed to see the underground without a guide, nobody to explain the history and details about the colosseum… It was NOT a good experience at all.

I’ll guide was fantastic! He spoke from the beginning of the tour until the end giving us a wealth of information and insights and stories. I loved every minute. He also offered to take photos, and did a fantastic job.

Excellent tour guide who knew his stuff. Informative without being boring, which is difficult. The Colosseum was far more interesting than expected.

  18. Maria_d

Short tour not worth the money
Guide had trouble with the microphone and it was difficult to hear his comments

It was a severe rain storm with thunder, and I tried to contact the vendor to ask if the tour was still happening with no response; then I contacted Viator to reach out to the vendor to request rescheduling of a refund as I’m traveling with a child and it was unsafe to be outside in the storm- the vendor honored neither request.
I would not book again with this vendor! Terrible communication and problem solving.

The knowledge of the guide was incredible. He took the time to not rush, older adults in the group, and took amazing pictures when asked. Could not have been nicer.
