Simatai Great Wall Travel Guide: Beijing’s Dramatic Night Great Wall Experience

Simatai Great Wall: A Dramatic Great Wall Experience Beside Gubei Water Town

Simatai Great Wall is one of the most dramatic and atmospheric sections of the Great Wall near Beijing. Located in Gubeikou, Miyun District, northeast of central Beijing, Simatai is famous for its steep ridgelines, watchtowers, mountain scenery and rare night-view experience.

What makes Simatai especially appealing is its connection with Gubei Water Town. Travellers can combine a Great Wall visit with canal-style streets, restaurants, hotels, hot springs, evening lights and mountain scenery. It is not the easiest Great Wall section, but it is one of the most memorable — especially if you stay for sunset or visit during the evening opening period.

Simatai is best suited to travellers who want a more rugged and atmospheric Great Wall experience than Badaling or Mutianyu, while still having resort facilities close by.
