Tour was good. Cawdor castle was very interesting and the gardens were beautiful. Culloden battlefield had some interesting history and our tour guide went into detail about it. A must stop if you’re a fan of Outlander. We only had about 40 minutes in Inverness and wished we could have spent more time exploring there than taking the longer “scenic route.” Also the stop at Loch Ness was only about 10 minutes on the side of the roadway. Enough time to take a few pictures but that is all. I would recommend not stopping at Beauly and using that time in Inverness. Plan on bringing a snack since There really is no time to get a meal along the way.

Becky was our tour guide and she was awesome. Very knowledgeable and very friendly. My wife and I met 2 other couples (who we didn’t know) for a great day. Highly recommend

Loved this tour. Our tour guide (I believe her name was June) was wonderful. The castle was amazing. Culloden stop was touching and the piper was wonderful. So much history. Highly recommend this tour

David was a wonderful guide. His knowledge and love of the area was truly appreciated. I would highly recommend David.

Picked this tour because it satisfied my excitement for Outlander based history and also gave a wonderful overview of Other Scottish sites. Great tour. Really informative! Loved Cawdor castle. The gardens were stunning!
RuthAnn_B –
June was a super tour guide. She got us in and out of the locations giving us so much information. The locations were all wonderful to see.
Suzette_G –
Loved it all! The places we visited were incredibly rich in history and the guides brought them to life. Too bad we didn’t see Nessie though!

This was our first cruise excursion that was NOT organized by the cruise line, and we were not disappointed. We were fortunate to have three guides on our bus (one was lead), each of whom was well versed in the history of the area, provided an overview at each of the scheduled stops and knowledgeably answered questions. They also provided a handout detailing the various stops. The driver was excellent. There were plenty of photo op stops, the last of which was for a pair of the unusual looking Highland cows. We were returned to the ship in plenty of time.

3 stars is generous. First, the good–The guide, Becky, was very knowledgeable and the driver was very competent. Time at the Culloden Battlefield and the Cawdor Castle felt about right. Now the not so good–The tour company combined passengers from 2 different ships which left the first group waiting an hour and the second group having to return an hour early. The bus itself was uncomfortable. It had narrow seats – 2 on one side and 3 on the other. It might have been ok for school children but not for even average sized adults. We ended up skipping at least 3 stops on the tour, including the one that had been designated as “lunch”. For one of the most expensive tours we have taken on our cruise of the British Isles, I expected far more.

I will never choose “Thistle Excursion Company” again! It was one of the most expensive excursion we saw, but thought it would be worth it. The guid Becky was great & very apologetic for the tour being very uncomfortable and missing half of what we paid for. It was not her fault. We left 50 min late waiting on 7 people from a different ship (who allowed them to join our ship when their time frame was so different??) Then our tour was cut 2hrs short for those same people to get back to their ship by 3:45 (our time was 5:30), so we missed 1/2 of what we paid for & didn’t even stop for lunch or to even grab food to eat on the bus! The bus was hot, VERY uncomfortable and very overcrowded. There were very narrow seats-child sized. All people on the isle had half their butts hanging off trying to stay out of the floor & there were NO handholds, net bags, or trays on the back of the seats-so no place to hold on & no place to put anything. The left side of the bus’ windows were so dirty, you could not see out or take photos. It was a horrible experience. Everyone on the bus were livid, I have photos of all the things I am complaining about, if you would like to see them. We want a refund.

First of all I have to say the tour guide Becky and her assistants as well as the driver Michael were exceptional, very informative and pleasant. The downside of the tour was that due to circumstances I wasn’t aware of the tour was cut short and we didn’t visit at least two of the stops and the ones we did were cut short. We spent a long time on the coach which I have to say was the most uncomfortable coach I have been on for years, too many seats crammed into too smaller space. On the whole it was very disappointing as everything was rushed.
Claudia_Q –
very nice tour, what a pity that Loch Ness was only a photo stop!
Unfortunately, it was very negative that our tour guide spoke without a point and come, vir all things on the way back and also extremely loud with a microphone, so that some relaxation was impossible!
I got a crazy headache afterwards

Cameron helped my father on and off the coach with as much skill as he drove. Wendy was a fountain of knowledge far far beyond the years of all her passengers combined. The only issue was that a couple of windows need replacing, to increase visibility and satisfaction of the whole experience.
Tina_B –
Becky, our guide, was fantastic and extremely knowledgeable. Our group was small (three couples) which was great.

Had to take alternative tour because of scheduling glitch with tour company. The local company was very nice and accommodating and they were able get put us on a shortened tour without the castle. They were also very gracious in rebating the appropriate portion of the money paid out. The problem for us was the venues. We just found the battlefield to be boring and the Lake to be nothing but a quick picture of water. It just wasn’t worth the time and expense, especially with the high Viator mark-up. The actual people who conducted the tour were great, so no fault to them. We did like the two quaint towns we visited.
Lou_N –
Cawdor Castle was really interesting. It’s not a huge castle, like many you find in Europe, but a smaller, more historical castle where the family lives part of the year with beautiful grounds! The battlefields stop really helped understand the history of the area. Wendy was a great guide, who handled a disruptive guest who actually asked Wendy to “give it a rest” and stop talking!!! Twice! Cameron was an amazing bus driver!
Tommy_M –
There was a last minute change in busses and they left late causing us to have a quick pass by the battlefield. No time for pictures. Speaker bus did not work most of the time which meant we could not understand what the guide was saying.
Ruth_C –
Our guide, Rhonda, was delightful and so willing and flexible as to allow us a special opportunity to have lunch at a local pub and then give us a walk about her city. She had to incorporate 3 couples with different itineraries into a day of adventure.
Evelyn_J –
Easy pick up from cruise ship. Excellent information from our guide. We had enough free time to explore on our own after each guided session. We’ll use Viator again!
