Yichang Chexi Old Street Guide: Tujia Culture, Night Lights and Folk Customs in Hubei

Yichang Chexi Old Street is one of the main cultural highlights inside the Chexi Folk Custom Tourism Area in Yichang, Hubei Province, China. Known in Chinese as part of 车溪民俗旅游区, the area combines Tujia-style architecture, traditional workshops, folk performances, local food, valley scenery and modern night-time light displays.

Chexi is not a normal city shopping street. It is a scenic folk-custom area designed to recreate the feeling of an old Three Gorges village, with wooden buildings, stone lanes, red lanterns, craft demonstrations and cultural displays. For travellers visiting Yichang, it offers a different experience from the Three Gorges Dam, Yangtze River cruises and modern city sights.
