This past week we were traveling all over Portugal — and we have the good fortune to take a day trip to Sintra and Cascais — in addition to several other structured tours/guides. The one to Sintra and Cascais was the absolute best, by FAR!!! Our guide [Ruben] was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful and showed us a really nice time! The highlight was going out to Colares [Praia das Azenhas do Mar] for a beer on the coast and seeing the amazing surf and lifestyle out there – and we slowly wound our way along the coast back down to Lisbon as he explained all of the microclimates (and the history). A truly great day!

Eddie (sp?) was absolutely amazing! We were blown away at how knowledgeable he was! Unfortunately, the Peña Palce was SO busy we waited in line for over an hour only to have to leave the inside because it was so full of people and didn’t have enough time- we wouldn’t recommend going inside this palace as it isn’t very interesting but the outside is! So many great places!

Sintra was beautiful. Cascais was fantastic. Ruben was very knowledgeable and informative. We had a great time.

We were only able to see Santa, the city, the monuments and parks were closed because of fire restrictions. Nuno our driver made sure our 1/2 day was full of a beautiful castle and the city of Cascais and the Mouth of Hell awesome water site!!! He introduced us to the BEST pastries and Cafe Americana that we’ve had in 4 weeks!

We had an excellent experience with Nuno!! He was on time and very informative. Took care of us like family, we visited all the sites (Cascais, Quinta de Regaleira, Peña Palace) and were back in Lisbon by 6pm for our dinner. We would highly recommend this tour!!

Our driver was really nice and took us to all of the most beautiful sights. Not only did we go to Sintra, but beautiful western coastline stops as well. Amazing day

We had a driver but not an actual guide like I’ve had on other Viator tours. Too expensive for that. Would like part of my money back.

Great day. Our guide was outstanding. His knowledge was astonishing. We were exposed to many local spots and got a real taste of Portugal outside Lisbon.

My husband and I had a wonderful private day tour to Sintra and Cascais with Pedro. He arrived on time and provided a safe and clean car to transport us for the day. He was very knowledgeable. At the Palace of Pena, we weren’t able to walk around the exterior and Pedro promptly got our tickets refunded. We loved exploring the coast and Pedro suggested a wonderful restaurant right on the coast where we enjoyed delicious, fresh seafood. We really enjoyed our day tour and would recommend to others.

Absolutely incredible tour of Sintra and Cascais! Ruben was the best tour guide and showed us all of the breathtaking sights, including the Pena Palace and gorgeous cliffs of the beaches and Cascais! It was definitely the highlight of our 2 weeks in Portugal. Must book!

What could have been a disastrous day turned out really well. It rained so hard in Sintra that day but Nunu, our guide and driver really took good care of us. He had umbrellas and made suggestions on how we could maximize our time in Pena Palace given the really bad weather. He also brought us to a nice Portuguese restaurant with excellent food and large portions. In the afternoon, we had a fun trip to Cascais with a lot of stopovers and that more or less made up for the not so good start at Sintra. Lastly, he helped find a good shopping area at the end of the trip, even giving us options on how to travel back to the hotel. Thank you, Nunu.

I had a very nice tour with Pedro M! He shared a lot of information about the city on the way from Lisbon to Sintra, but was sensitive to “information overload” as well. I just went with the agenda provided by the tour, but he checked in to see what kind of lunch I wanted to have and how I wanted to spend my time. When we finished the official tour and still had time on the clock, he asked if there was anything else I wanted to see (but we had packed the day and I was happy enough to be done a little early!) Overall, it was a nice quick sampler of the south coast.
While he shared a lot of information in the car from destination to destination, be aware that the sites themselves are “self-guided.” For the most part, that was just fine for me, but just something to be aware of.
If I were able to do it again, I would confirm the itinerary so I would know how much time I would have at each location, and then do a little research to make sure the time balance is what I would prefer. I would also be specific about what I want/like in terms of lunch — I said I was happy with a quick lunch, and so I was pointed to the tourist attraction cafe at Cabo da Roca. It definitely met the criteria I had set, but it wasn’t the kind of food I would typically choose for myself, but that is on me for not being specific. It’s your time, money, and tour, so just be clear about what will make for a good day and you will have a great time!

Absolutely a perfect day to spend in Sintra. Highly recommend this private tour and it can be customized for you!!

Excellent trip! Our guide Pedro was friendly, but not too friendly—giving us a wealth of information and allowing us to see the sites at our own pace. This was much better than going to Sintra on one’s own, as Pedro took us to many stops we otherwise would have missed and certainly couldn’t access without a car. It was a perfect day. Highly recommend!!

Pedro was prompt, warm, friendly, and knowledgable. Our tour started with a 9am (900) pickup and a 4pm (1600) drop-off, in Lisbon. I would suggest an 8am (800) pickup to provide a little more time. We passed by several areas of interest mentioned in the tour description. As described our actual stops were Pena Palace, Quinta da Regaleri and Cabo de Roca. We were early enough to avoid long lines, and we didnt linger long at any of the sights, but we still did not have enough time. We chose to see interior of Palace, which left no time to see gardens outside. Same with Quinta da Regaleria, only about a third of the site can be seen in the amount of time planned. In order to make up for spending more time at Quinta than was listed, we skipped eating lunch at a restaurant and just grabbed snacks to eat in the car. Pedro was kept us informed the whole day and suggested modifications to keep the tour on schedule. The drive back to Lisbon was scenic and Pedro pointed out many other points of interest along the way. Sintra & Cascais are amazing and I would love to visit them again, but a longer tour is necessary. 9-10 hours at least, or spend the evening and cover it in 2 days.
And note, all entrance fees are extra, unlike some other tours in this price range. Also, if you have two or more tall people (6ft / 2M or more) in your party the car ride may be uncomfortable due to limited legroom.

Nuno was our tour operator for the day and he was incredibly kind. He took great pictures for us and was a bottomless well of information. Nuno expertly guided us around and shared such fun facts. He also gave us time to ourselves so we could enjoy certain points just as a family. I HIGHLY recommend this tour.
