Getting there by 8:30 am was hard, but totally worth it. Our group of about 20 were the only people in the Crown Jewels when we went through and it was delightful. 28 degree temps were a little harsh for the outside bits of the tour, but probably contributed to the scarcity of other tourists (maybe the train strike helped, too. The city and the grounds were beautiful in the early morning light. Tour guide was terrific.

We booked this early morning tour primarily to beat the crowds, but I quickly discovered that the best part was seeing the opening ceremony at the Tower of London. I had no idea how much pomp was involved! It was exciting to see the “gatekeeper” with his keys, flanked by heavily armed guards who opened the gates to the facility that housed the Crown Jewels. We had the first access to the display of the Crown Jewels, and I was shocked to see how many crowns are included in the collection, how many jewels are on each crown, and how huge each crown is! The tour following the viewing the jewels was impressive, too. We enjoyed every aspect of this tour, and highly recommend it!

Great experience and it was amazing to be the first group into see the jewels. You really do beat the crowds! Do be prepared for lots of steps. There are over 200 in the white tower alone.

Getting in early was good. But our guide didn’t show (guess he was sick). That happens and is no one’s fault, but the substitute got there late and was not able to be a guide. She seemed more confused than we were. After a great deal of confusion another tour company accepted us into their group, which was now far too big. So, once inside, we simply ignored the group and went off on our own.

If you dont do this particular tour while in London, you are missing out on something really special. The early access really does work. We saw the Key Ceremony and were able to see the Crown Jewels before the long line started to flock through the gates. It was freezing the day we went in late May. Layers are needed I think as the weather can change during the day. Small walking tours have always ended up being the most enjoyable for us, we are in our late 50s (😏) but are quite capable walkers. There are stairs on this one. Our guide spoke to us through head phones, so we didn’t miss a thing or get lost. Don’t be late for your tour, familiarise yourself with your pick up spot early. Our guide Sarah, was amazing. Thank you! 🇬🇧💂

I think the Tower is a must see for London, especially if you have teens or older children. Great guide and tour. You can stay after the tour if you desire and have the time.

We were greeted with enthusiasm and kindness! Our guide Salvatore was funny and you can tell he loves history and makes it fun for all with quips here and there. The early access is KEY!! It’s the only way to see the opening of the gates. And that is also the opening to the public! the queue for the Crown Jewels room got so long after us. Best way to save time. It’s also very flexible that if you need to leave the tour and wander on your own. The tour ends IN the tower so it was nice to have our own time to explore.
