After three cancelled mother/daughter trips from California to the UK due to Covid and illness, we finally made it! Our #1 thing to do on our trip was visit filming locations from Downton Abbey. This Viator small group tour looked like the best choice. We were right! Absolutely THRILLED with the service, punctuality and excellence of our driver, Chris and our FABULOUS tour guide, Toby. What a wonderful day! The Cogges Farm was a surprising delight and the filming locations in Bampton were fun to see. But of course, Highclere Castle was the big highlight. What a wonderful tour. The castle fulfilled every expectation we had been waiting for. A gorgeous, well kept castle. We had a nice sandwich, tea and cake and bought lots of fun mementos of our visit at the shop. All staff was kind and helpful. It was a fantastic day.

Obviously you will enjoy this tour the most if you are a fan of Downton Abbey, but Cogges Farm was lovely regardless, and while Highclere Castle itself is fine (we loved seeing the rooms where the Granthams and Crawleys spent their time) it actually wasn’t the highlight. That would be the Highclere Castle grounds, with the rolling hills, secret gardens and amazing huge trees to escape the sun under. We could have just stayed outside and watched the world go by. Mike was a great guide as well! Wonderful trip!

While I appreciated the background of the historical era I felt the guide should have known more about Downton Abbey than we received. For example, when someone said “What is a weekend?” the entire group perked up. If not more info about the show and the estate, perhaps more about the Carnarvon family. The village was lovely and seeing the church and Crawley house was great. Could’ve skipped Cogges farm.

What an outstanding day for any Downton Abbey fan! The tour bus arrived promptly on time and we were warmly welcomed by tour guide Amber and driver Christo. We could not have asked for a better team to conduct this great tour!
As we left London Amber greeted each of our sixteen passengers and we shared information about ourselves and our love of Downton Abbey. This was a great “icebreaker” as we got to know our fellow passengers early into our tour.
The tour stops at several locations associated with the Downton Abbey series. We loved visiting the church featured in several episodes as well as the village depicted in the show. We also visited a farm seen in some of the shows segments.
When we arrived at Highclere Castle around noon Amber graciously took pictures of members of our tour group in fron of the iconic castle.
We were then given plenty of time to tour and explore the castle and the Egyptian Exhibit. There was time to leisurely shop for souvenirs and indulge in Afternoon Tea if so desired.
All in all this Downton Abbey tour was professionally conducted and was a treat for anyone with an interest in this wonderful show. Kudos to Amber and Christo for a great tour!

My tour with Amber was absolutely incredible. An absolute dream come true. The pace for the day was fantastic and I felt like I was able to have the full Downton Abbey experience. The coach was comfortable and our driver James did a fantastic job on some very small bends. Amber had such a fantastic history of every area we drove through but delivers the history in a very fun and relatable way. Her knowledge of the behind the scenes info, cast relations and entire Downton universe was very impressive. This tour was by far the highlight of my trip and amber was definitely the reason for that!
