Great tour! Rothenburg is something out of a fairy story!

Our guide was excellent and the old city tours were great.

I loved the whole day trip from start to finish, beautiful sightseeing and the driver was a very nice person

Used ETS tours between 14 and 16 May 2017 Rothenburg and Hiedelberg trip driven by Peter. He was kind gentle and impressed with his knowledge of history and lots of trivia about Germany. They provide sandwiches and water enroute. Since we went on a Sunday, we escaped the heavy traffic of trucks. Rothenburg was beautiful during late spring. It was drizzling in Hiedelberg and it was wonderful. The next trip on 16 to Baden Baden, Black Forest and Strasbourg by the duo of Michael and another (not getting their names after a month) we’re the impressive Germans who made us laugh with the dry sense of humor and wit. They threw lots of nice facts about German industries, culture, history and made the tour lively.Office opposite Savoy hotel is not impressive but the coach drivers and guides are very hospitable and warm.

We booked this tour for 8 people, and were driven in a minivan that seated all 8 of us. The driver, George, was very knowledgeable and happy to share his knowledge. Heidelberg and Rothenburg were both great towns to visit and explore. My reasons for only giving this tour 3 stars: one day is not nearly enough time to see and enjoy both towns, although we had no idea how much time would actually be spent in the car when we booked this tour. We would have preferred to have more time in one town. We were literally hustled through Rothenburg on a quick walking tour, given 20 minutes of free time, hustled back to the van and handed a home-made sandwich of 1 slice of cheese, mayo and a pickle slice, and driven off to Heidelberg where we had slightly more time to wander than we did in Rothenburg. Again, too much distance to cover to really enjoy either town, and driving on the autobahn at speeds of up to 105 mph! I understand speeding is expected and excessive in Germany, however, that did not help to calm my fears from the back seat of a minivan! Would have much preferred to spend the day in Rothenburg, dwell on the sights, have a nice lunch and do some shopping. If you don’t mind the hurried pace and only want to get a quick introduction to both towns, spending most of the day in the car on the highway, then this tour would be good for you. Otherwise, I would highly recommend choosing one town to visit per day.

Driver drove way too fast on the freeway. Left us at the city, did not guide a guided tour. No map of the city was provided.

The tour company did a poor job with managing this tour. There were not enough people signed up for this tour so it was not cost effective for the company. However, there were many people who signed up for the tour that just went to Rothenburg. The tour company decided to put us all on one shuttle bus and not tell the passengers of this problem prior to boarding. As a result the day was spent mostly in Rothenburg. Upon inquiring with the tour guide as to what time we would be getting to Heidelberg he said he would stop on the way back to Frankfurt. When we got to Heidelberg it was a surprise to the other passengers that the tour was stopping and they would not be back at the scheduled time which was a problem for some of the passengers. The tour guide responded that they should not schedule tours with a tight time schedule and they were getting second location for free. He walked us around the center of the town for maybe 20 minutes and since we insisted he drove us to the Heidelberg Castle grounds since by that time the castle had closed. We were there for maybe another 20 minutes before heading back to Frankfurt. We were not refunded any money despite our disappointment. Heidelberg seemed like a great place to spend time on a visit. Rothenberg was a neat town to visit because of its architecture and if you are a shopper you will not be disappointed. Overall the tour was simply not what was described and certainly the tour company should have told us prior to boarding that they did not have enough people register for this tour and lay out our options so we could make the decision on how to spend the day.

The all-day tour was fascinating and made very pleasant by an excellent tour guide. So much history and information.

You guys cancelled my tour without notice and I show up ON TIME and no one told me it was canceled. I had to ask a tour guide from another tour if he knows where is my tour guide. Incredible!
Jack_O –
Our guide, Willie was great when out of the van as you could hear him. In the van he spoke 90% to the person sitting up front next to him. The tour description was extremely misleading as we drove for around 65% of the time, then an hour plus was spent in Heidelberg and two hours spent in Rothenburg. No mention that lunch was on our own and not enough time for it in Heidelberg. Mentioning lunch was an aftersite.
All in all, it was a waste of time and money. Better would have been a half-day trip to Heidelberg or Rothenburg. I would not recommend this trip to anyone.

Tour guide had a good sense of humor and was knowledgeable about Heidelberg and Rothenburg. With that being the positive, I have to say this tour should never be offered. It doesn’t do justice to either city to try and visit both in one day. We didn’t have enough time in either place. We were allowed 20 minutes in the town of Heidelberg and 30 minutes at the castle. We were then allowed 90 minutes in Rothenburg. 70% of the trip was spent driving, and the majority of that was on the autobahns. Our driver certainly took advantage of no speed limit, reaching speeds in excess of 165 kph. There were only 2 parties on this tour. One was a party of 4, and the other was a party of 2. We were put on a passenger van with 3 people to a seat. Poor maintenance of the van made it shake at the high speeds mentioned above. Combine all of this with no time built in for lunch, and it was not an enjoyable trip, albeit an expensive one.

The company cancelled our trip to Rothenburg. Sent an email saying we could still do it even though we were only ones and when we turned up they said no you have to go on another tour or cancel. Extremely disappointed. The other tour guide was impatient and rude and was not at all concerned about us missing our chosen tour. The Baden tour was long mostly driving and very little time to see anything. About 20mins at sights and no lunch break. He wasn’t even going to advise us of a time to eat.

Excellent trip our guide Peter made it more
Memorable. Great gentleman he showed us more than it was supposed too.

The only thing we liked on this tour was our guide Peter and the driver. Those two individuals were really accommodating and considerate. However, we were grouped with some somewhat loud rude tourists. They were loud all throughout our long drive as if it was their private tour. We ended up with headaches in the night squished through a tiny minivan with them. On top of it, the place we all walked into have a late lunch called ” Ratsstube – Restaurant & Cafe” in Rothenburg treated us so bad we walked out after a few minutes we entered. We have traveled as a family to over 40 countries and by far this was the only restaurant who were racist toward us. The waiter and waitress were so rude that they laughed at us when we asked whether they have any vegetarian dishes and asked them to explain some German dishes in English. I was surprised that they haven’t seen any South Asian in such a multicultural country. One waiter pushed my husband and asked him to sit somewhere else. I wonder where else he could have sat when the rest of our family of 5 sat at one table. I also don’t think it’s a crime to ask whether a restaurant caters to vegetarian dishes as it’s much healthier and many people eat vegetarian regardless of any religious belief. Also, many restaurants throughout our past travels in over 40 countries, always explained their menu and some chefs even catered special dishes for us as a courtesy and we were glad to pay the extra charges. Also, one of the kids had allergies, so we had to make sure what was in the meal we were consuming as it’s our right to know what we are eating for the price we are paying. Anyhow, we walked out and found a nice Mexican restaurant couple of stores down called “Roter Hahn”, the service at that place was phenomenal and they took us in even without a reservation and as a reward, we gave them a nice tip. Sometimes people need to understand not to judge the book by its cover. We may look different but we are all the same inside. Especially coming out of the pandemic we treat service industry staff with high gratitude. However, we don’t like to be victims of racism anywhere we go as we work hard to earn our money and we always play by the rules. The only good thing on this tour was our super nice guide, Peter. So apologies Peter was this review but maybe you can let the restaurant know how they made us feel.

Peter was an amazing guide to these charming towns. The drive was easy and we had a delicious late lunch. Would highly recommend!

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to both Rothenburg and Heidelberg. Our guide, Willy, was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. He did a good job with the tour and keeping us informed along the way. Our tours helped make our first trip to Deutschland very memorable and the sights we saw were breath taking! We highly recommend this trip!

perhaps a bit pricey, but the tour is amazing – high quality service, knowledgeably guide/driver, enough time at every attraction and very pleasant overall.

Great tour! Tour guide was really good, witty and funny. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and kind. We were given time to explore the different towns and eat. Restroom stops were incorporated without having to ask.
JoseA_F –
We booked the Heidelberg/Rothenburg excursion. However, when the tour guide came he said our tour had been cancelled and either we went with him to Nuremberg/Rothenburg or we were out of luck. We had to go with him because we really wanted to see Rothenburg. However our stay in Rothenburg was only 1 hour. Totally dissatisfied
