Lovely trip with Jim Divine who provided fascinating commentary and took us on lovely backroads through the Borderlands and to Hadrian’s Wall. Would absolutely recommend as a great way to cover a lot of ground in one day.

Being on Hadrian’s Wall was a dream come true for me, Vindolanda was amazing and Jedburgh as well. Our guide was very knowledgeable on the subject but also on all matters on Scotland, from the big events like Roman Britannia to small events like Reforestation Comission.

We had an amazing time exploring the Borders and some ancient Roman sites with Kevin, our gem of a guide. He paired commentary and kernels of information as we went along our route south to Hadrian’s Wall with balanced music, quiet time, and time to just relax and enjoy the beauty of the area. We stopped at Hadrian’s Wall in three separate areas, and spent lunch and a couple hours at Vindolanda, and absolutely incredible Roman site with an impressive museum of included with entry.
Truly the only downside to this day was the severe weather (wind and rain!), but Kevin accommodated the schedule for breaks in the weather and we had a wonderful time nonetheless.

Our tour was fantastic, and our tour guide Stuart B was amazing! He guided us along our journey with great stories and history facts about each location we stopped at. Even though some sights were closed he made it up by stopping at other cool historical spots. Definitely recommend this tour!

Pictures absolutely don’t do the beauty of this trip justice! Stephen was an AMAZING guide through our trip, plenty of stops for potty breaks and time to roam around. He also has a perfectly curated soundtrack 😉 and gave a fun history of other areas passed by as well!!

The extent of the Vindolanda site was surprising, the museum was fabulous, and the chance to walk along a section at Steel Rigg made me want to do more!

Overall an excellent tour. Our guide, Jim Scott was great providing historic background with humor and music. The tour route, stops, and visits were all great sites to see to experience the borders area south of Scotland. This was a small group of less than 16 in a comfortable large van. The morning pickup spot was easy to find and well organized. Overall a great experience – we would do this tour again and highly recommend it.

Loved the scenery and each stop was amazing! Alistair was a fantastic guide with loads of great history and stories. He was kind and patient and knowledgeable.

Vindolanda is an amazing place to visit. It’s a really well done historic Roman site with live (!) archeologists working to expand the site. It helped bring to life the experience of the people who built the fort and lived there.
Kelsey_S –
Really great experience overall! Our guide Jim was a gem. He clearly loves and knows his country well and was a wealth of information (with a healthy healing of great humor) about Scotland’s history. The only regret was the very short amount of time we actually had at Hadrian’s Wall – barely enough to scale the ridge and back down to scurry back to the bus. I would’ve preferred we shortened or even skipped other stops to give more time to what felt like it should have been the main event of the tour. Also, I think they should probably warn you ahead of time that the museum and cafe at Vindlanda is down a very steep hill. It wasn’t accessible for my mother, who has some mobility issues, so she wasn’t able to see the museum and we had to get her takeaway lunch. Otherwise, fantastic trip!

The trip was excellent. We first had a brief tour of the Scottish Border region. The insight on that region was very interesting.
Hadrian’s Wall and the Vindolanda site were incredible. Seeing the remains of this ancient wall was very interesting but the best part was the ruins of the old Roman fort Vindolanda. While much of the fort and surrounding village has been excavated, there are still excavations ongoing. Walking through Romans ruins was very interesting and the museum was fascinating. The local soil conditions preserved textiles, leather and even parts of documents.
I highly recommend this tour.
