The guided tour part is very brief with only a few sights described. For the grotto, dome climb and much of the basilica, you’re on your own. No skip-the-line access.

Book the early morning tour because you don’t skip the security queue and it can take up to 2 hours in the afternoon. We did the first tour in the morning and it took around 40 minutes to get through security. You’re very rushed around the inside to be taken to the top so didn’t feel like we got all the information we could have had on this tour.

I have been in the St. Peter’s basilica once before on another trip – but had never been to the dome. This was such a great experience and I would really recommend it. I would also recommend getting the early tour since the lines will be long throughout the day and furthermore it will not be as hot to climb the stairs to the dome & be up there. The basilica itself is beautiful and is a must-see for anyone in Rome!

Highly recommend! Daizen was so knowledgeable, kind and entertaining. We had about an hour wait to get into the security for the Vatican, it was a busy afternoon on a Sunday so we expected that. We’re so happy because we got to learn so much history about the Vatican during our wait. Inside St Peter’s is indescribable. Make sure to leave time after the tour to wander inside. The dome climb requires some effort but very doable and so worth the view from the top. Highly recommend! Thanks Daizen you were great and we really enjoyed ourselves!
