Discover Messina was excellent. They picked us up at the port on time and with name signs. We boarded a nice clean bus, and off we went. Mariarita talked about Sicily during our trip. She gave us some delicious almond pastry and a water bottle. By far, the most impressive experience was the driving. Going up to Castelmola is not easy, and boy, that driver drove excellently. I’m talking about going 1736 feet above sea level on roads that twisted around like spaghetti. Two thumbs up!

Chiara did a great job explaining the history but spending 3 his in Taormina was way to long. We also left 25 minutes late at the start of the tour because Chiara was waiting for latecomers. 10 minutes late is okay but don’t make the rest of us who were on time wait 25 minutes before the excursion starts.

It was informative but unfortunately very difficult to hear properly because our tour guide did not have her microphone clipped on and was holding it right to her mouth which caused a great deal of distortion. We tried to stand beside her at all times instead of putting on the ear piece.

Our tour guide Elisa was charming. The problem occurred when we were off the bus for the city tours. The company did not provide audio equipment so we could not hear her. We also had too much free time in the two cities (1 1/2 hours in Taormina and 45 minutes in Castlemola). The time would have been better spent in returning to Messina and adding a mini tour of this city). Overall, not what we expected.
