We had only a brief visit to Johannesburg but wanted a taste of the place which us certainly what we got with this tour. Our guide Gladness shared his city with us. We gained lots if information and stories, saw the important tourist sites, took lots if photos and stopped for a drink and local bite to eat. Was a perfect tour in my view for a reasonable price . thank you Gladness

This was a wonderful tour of Soweto and one that we would not have been able to go on our own. Our guide was excellent providing so much great history of the region and patiently answering all questions. Touring the settlement and walking in day care is a memory we will never forget. I’m truly thankful for this tour and all we learned along the way.

Excellent and unforgettable tour! We did this tour during our two days in Johannesburg before our safari and it was truly inspiring. I would recommend a tour to Soweto for any visit to Joburg. Despite some of the negative history from a few decades ago and some challenges still today, I saw Soweto today as beautiful and a place filled with happiness. Our guide Thabang was awesome, gave us a great history of Soweto as well as Johannesburg as a whole. We brought some lollipops for the kids and also some school supplies for their daycare. This 1/2 day tour was such a perfect way to start what became such an amazing/memorable trip to South Africa!!

The Soweto tour itself was amazing, learning the historical significance of this township was enlightening. Seeing close up how the people live is interesting. This was not the tour for me. There was no description to filter what we were going to see. I thought we would be walking through parts of the township and we did to a certain extent but not in the way I envisioned. We were subjected to “poverty porn” which I conscientiously object to – where we were taken to someone’s village street and home, which was in the worst possible conditions and guilted into giving monies. This is the worst type of aid as it does nothing to change the lives of the individuals, does not dissected the issues of capitalism consumption, is voyueristic and puts these people in the position of beggars. The sites of the Apartheid struggle which I thought we would see, we barely spent any time.

Great guide Thabang who comes from Soweto neighborhood. He was very knowledgeable about his Soweto and also generally about Johannesburg. During Soweto tour we visited poor area which was however clean and people could hope here for better future, we visited also Nelson Mandela house and we could understand what he did for his country and also other local sights. You could feel that Soweto people remember past, but live for the future. Excellent tour to learn more about South Africa past.

Once we got to Soweto, we were very pleased with the tour. It gave us a better understanding of the history and current situation in that area. However, we were disappointed with the amount of time the guide had to spend driving to various far-flung hotels to assemble the tour group. It was also frustrating that the guide spent an inordinate amount of time on the phone during the tour.
