We had booked for a one day safari tour with this tour operator through Viator. Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, we are unable to go for the tour. We wrote in and called the tour operator to inform them on the above and we understand verbally that we will be able to utilized the paid fee for the safari tour on another date. Thereafter we wrote in twice to follow up on the status of the open ticket for the paid amount but till-to-date, after 4 days, we have yet to hear from the tour operator. It is quite a let down given that we had duly informed them about the tour cancellation prior to the tour date. Hope the tour operator would get back to us in no time.

Amazing, the park was beautiful. Keep in mind that you are not guaranteed to see all of the animals you want to, this is not a zoo. Driving around in the open vehicle with the nice breeze itself was great. The tour guides, Alex and Buffalo Soldier, were very knowledgeable and knew where to go in the park at what times to maximize the chances of seeing the most amount of animals.

The most memorable part of the tour was the herd of elephants walking pass. It was AMAZING being in such close proximity, but out of their way. I would definitely do this tour again, for a one day safari experience. Our guides Joe and Alex were great! They were knowledgeable and very pleasant. Joe was very funny on the tour. They definitely made it a very fun experience.

We didn’t have time to visit Kruger National Park and Pilansburg was a nice alternative. Obviously much smaller but it is closer to Johannesburg and malaria-free while it is a real nature reserve, not just a private game reserve (which sometimes can be a bit disappointing and more similar to a zoo than to a real safari). Unfortunately, you have better chances to see lions early mornings or in the night but you’ll probably see elephants, hippos, rhinos, giraffes, zebras during the day as well.
Both our driver, Dennis and our ranger, Buffalo Soldier were friendly and knowledgeable.

Pilanseburg park was absolutely great, but it is important always to take into account weather (it was quite cold so some animals were hiding) and time of the year to actually see the big 5 – we managed to see 3 out of 5. Nico (the park guide) was knowledgable, with many great stories, and absolutely recommendable.
On the other hand, the drive, especially on the way back from the park to Joburg, was tough. There was a lot of traffic, the driver was speeding and stopping to pass the cars, which was making us a bit car sick. Also the price for the same tour varied from 140€ to 180€ (in my case), depends if you were booking for a single traveler, and if it was through the Viator or directly with the tour agency. Good to check it before the booking. Didn’t feel great to pay 30% more than any other participant for the same…

Well, the first thing is the complete tour was behind the schedule
– We never get to park in time
– the guide was very much busy promoting himself as the best ranger in the world and boasting about his achievement over his life than getting to connect with another ranger who was able to spot Big 5 as they seemed to be coordinated
– The second game drive planned never happened because there was no time
– During the first game drive, we were just driving (sometimes more than 60/70kmps) and I guess game drive and spotting of B5 is more of a patience work than just drive.
– Last, but not least the food quality offered is extremely poor which is available in the package. Though the food you will order at your expense is good.

This was our first safaris and as we only had a few days in Johannesburg, Pilansburg seemed like a good option as Kruger was further out and would take longer than we wanted to devote to a safari. We were pleasantly surprised by the experience seeing brown hyena, jackal, impala, zebras, giraffes, white rhinos, wildebeests, cheetahs, and elephants. Very good value.

The trip was good. I was picked up on time from my hotel – real early 5:30am or so. The van made couple of other spots on the way to pick up customers.
We reached the reserve around 9 and were transferred to a nice open jeep for morning drive. We saw a few elephants, giraffe and lots of gazelles. We came back for lunch (which was covered). The lunch location has viewpoint where we saw more antelopes and a rhino.
After lunch we went for evening drive and saw a few more elephants and giraffes. But no big cats.
Overall a decent experience. But we did Masai Mara afterwards – so this wasn’t the highlight of our trip.
