The Tiwi people sharing their culture with us was extremely interesting and appreciated. The presentations were delivered well and included some humour. The day ran smoothly and each stop was fascinating. Lunch was well organised and delicious. All tour guides were wonderful, we had Trevor who was great. It was a privilege to spend time on the Island.

  2. Ken_J

Lunch was basic but was the best part.
Tour was poorly organised, no one knew what was happening. Bus only went 3 kms easier to walk. Most time was spent waiting.

  3. Cayleigh_A

We got tickets last minute through Viator and it was fantastic! The tour was great, we went to the cemetery, museum and art centre. Would’ve liked to see a bit more of the Tiwi.

  4. Russell_P

The friendly welcome, hospitality and overall experience on the Tiwi Islands was absolutely wonderful. I look forward to returning.
The departure time for the ferry was listed as 07.30 but the lengthy checkin process hadn’t even started and we didn’t leave until 08.30 which sadly meant we were late getting to the Tiwi Islands.
Everyone on the Island did a fabulous job.
Don’t miss the opportunity to take this trip.

    Exceptional
    A must do for everyone
It’s a cultural experience that leaves you with much knowledge about these wonderful people

Amazing day, highly recommended. The tour was filled with wonderful culture, dance and ceremonies. A must when visiting Darwin.

  7. Susanna_L

The most relaxing day ever! The ferry to Bathurst, Tiwi Islands takes about 2.5 hours but is a very enjoyable trip being out on the ocean. I’m usually sea sick on boats but didn’t feel a thing on the ferry across the relatively smooth waters to Tiwi Island. On the island you experience the Tiwi culture through painting, dance and discussion. There are only a few sights to see and a buffet lunch but it is still worth venturing over. So relaxing, no wifi, no tight time frames, perfect weather (in July) and beautiful Tiwi hospitality.

Learning about the culture and interaction with Tiwi Islanders. Would have liked more time on the island.

  9. Trudi_E

Loved the damper morning tea, whilst watching the ladies paint mussel shells and talk of their traditions.
Disappointed that the museum wasn’t open as it was a public holiday but nothing was offered in its place. After lunch it seemed disorganised, and our guides weren’t around to ‘guide’ us to other venues prior to the ferry arriving.

  10. Tanya_O

The smoking ceremony was nice, seeing the art work and the artist who created them. The stories about their clans.

  11. Pasquale_A

The women showing Islander painting techniques, spiritual dance quite good. Disappointing “city” tour, should have shown more of the island, not the slumb of the so called city

  12. Sarah_B

An amazing cultural experience, everything was explained throughly and traditions are still upheld to this day

Loved hearing about your culture. The way you do things. Your laws, the relationship between tribes. Loved talking with the guides especially Mary Cruz’s Uncle. The museum was great, the aboriginal legends I love. I loved seeing Cyril’s jumper.
I was bothered by all the Catholic Christian stuff. I understand they looked after you well but I don’t like them telling you their spirituality is better than yours.your spirituality is rich and beautiful and thousands of years old and must be continued to be lived.

  14. Deborah_B

The island women propped up the show as no aboriginal men appeared at all! Disappointing to say the least. The aboriginal paintings for sale were too expensive to purchase. Our stand in tour guide (John) did his best and his wife (Trish) prepared great damper and lunch!

  15. Silvia_S

It was nice and interesting talking with Aboriginal People and listen to they story. I had the opportunity to ask for some explanations about their culture and I could buy some handmade art craft as well.

Great opportunity to visit the Tiwi Islands, I have been wanting to do this for a very long time and very happy that I have now been.

A fantastic day, relaxing on the ferry ride over and return to Darwin.
The people involved were friendly and so helpful.
Lunch and morning tea was lovely as well as a great group of likeminded travelers. Freddy was a great commentator.

  18. Raymond_D

I became very I’ll during the night and was unable to travel. I did not want to go just incase it was Covid.
I contacted both tour operations and Viator to try to get refund without success. My two friends did attend the tour.

Learning about the Tiwi Culture was very interesting. The museum was also very interesting, we could have spent more time there.

  20. David_K

The local guides were absolutely superb. Loved listening to their stories and about their culture.
Would have given 5 stars if we could have seen a bit more of the village and their community. AAT guide could have helped out a bit more, especially towards the end.
