It was a life experience spending the day with the Tiwi people, learning about their history, culture and their wonderful outlook on life. The tour guides were all so informative, intelligent and friendly. We spent most of our time with Fred (one of Tiwi’s best AFL legends… according to Fred!) who is a great communicator, telling us some of the sad, funny and proud stories of the Tiwi people. However the highlight of the day was meeting and talking with Bernard, who is an Tiwi icon. 82 years young, grandfather of 32, social reformer and ex-schoolteacher. His stories, vision for the Tiwi people and his sense of humour blew us away.

Great trip with lots of interest and a good overview of the island and its people. Lots of contact with tiwi islanders. Nice tea and lunch. My only complaint is that the museum tour was very rushed and we had to leave before the time we were told. This meant i couldnt go to the shop where i had hoped to buy gifts. Then we had too much time at the final art gallery where the work was beautiful but expensive, and not aimed at children. I am really pleaswd that insid this trip.

Really great tour meeting the locals and learning about their culture which is so different to the indigenous mainland. The history of the Tiwi Islands from long ago and during World War 2 was fascinating.Nice lunch provided and good commentary from the local guides about the way they live and their religious beliefs and traditions.Would highly recommend a visit to the Tiwi’s.
