Ordering the tour proved to be difficult, everything worked as expected through internet, but I could not pay the trip as usual. Instead I had to phone a service number and after some 20 minutes everything was in order. The tour was more or less as expected, the guide was good, his english very good. Two wine tastings were organised in a normal manner, the third “wine tasting” took place on board the train, apparently someone tried to tell us something about this small amount of white wine served on the train. The audio system was lousy, we heard absolutely nothing. Totally worthless as a wine tasting, but a rather nice train ride.

We had a great experience with this tour! Our guide, Franco, was knowledgeable, polite and friendly, and he created a laid back atmosphere for all 9 guests. We toured three wineries and stopped for coffee and a lunch. Hotel pickup was incredibly convenient!

With a sort of silly 40 min tram ride when a side stop on the road for a photo would’ve done, a lunch not at a winery, and 2 hours from pickup to our first stop, the pace was insanely painful. The guide was amaizng though. The tour company just needs to restructure this tour

The guide Basil Brown was the best!
We learnd About South African history and development by a real South african.
We visited lovely estates with serviceminded stagg.

The guide made the trip! Basel was telling us so much about Sourh African history much more things than just things about wine. The train trip was nice, the shuttle nice, the wine tasting was nice. A perfect day outside Cape Town!

Excellent time on this excursion. Our guide was helpful, we had a good group considering we all came from different backgrounds and language barriers. Wines were nice. The cheese/wine was my favorite. Marianne is very pretty though.

We had a lovely time with Danny (Our guide). We learned a lot from our guide about Cape Town and the surrounding towns. The wine tour was a absolute blast. Would recommend it to everyone!

Our tour guide, Basil was absolutely amazing! He was both knowledgeable and caring.
I was however very disappointed in the service we received at our last stop. There was a wedding taking place and they definitely were not expecting us. Not sure if this was Rickety Bridge or the tour company’s fault. Again, Basil did his utmost to not let this spoil our day. Thank you Basil

We’ve done other Cape Town wine tours. This one was one of our favourites. We were picked up at our hotel in very comfortable transport and whisked off to Stellenbosch for a wine & chocolate tasting. Then after a chance to walk around the town center, over to Paarl for our second tasting with biltong. Next Basel took us to Franschhoek where we had a lunch break and a chance to check out the high street, before we were put on the wine tram for a short ride to our third tasting, where Basel told us we could relax and enjoy the vineyard, as there was no need to rush back to CPT. We really appreciated this, and even bought more wine to enjoy on the vineyard terrace. Other reviews complain about the wine tram, not sure why, everyone on the tram is lively, having a good time, the views are amazing and frankly it was something we could tick off our list of CPT experiences without having to work out the details ourselves. Basel got the tickets, escorted us on the tram; and made sure the driver knew where we were to get off – then he was waiting for us at the other end. We even got a wee tasting of one wine on the tram. Great experience. Definitely worth it.

Was an absolutely amazing experience! Beautiful weather and met amazing new people! Would definitely recommend!

For the most part the wines were pretty good. None were outstanding. The trip however was excellent. Ivan was a wonderful driver with a unique sense of humor that transcended the age range of the group. We were a mix of young an old from various countries who got along terrifically, especially after the tastings started. The scenery was beautiful and a great time was had by all.

We had an amazing time on the wine tours and our guide went above and beyond! Comfortable ride and we loved getting to try all of the 3 wine towns.

We visited 3 vineyards and had mixed experiences at each. First of all, our guides were great! Basil and Edward were really knowledgable and very pleasant the whole day – thank you to both of them!!
Zevenvacht, Stellenbosch – a great vineyeard and the tasting was fabulous. Staff were friendly and service orrientated. We bought wine here and will order more.
Marianne, Paarl – this was a very disappointing tasting. The white, rose and red wines were all poured into the same glass! When a second red came out I actually had to ask if I could have a clean glass as there was still sedemant from the previous wine. The lady serving didnt explain anything about these wines and appeared like she couldnt be bothered. She basically just came to pour the wine each time and left. I bought nothing here and wouldnt ever go back there.
Rickety Bridge, Franshoek – this was ok. The wines were nice enough and at least we got new glasses each time. They also serve food which was handy as we had kids with us.

Great selections of wine, lots of fun, great guide! Really enjoyed how each vineyard was different and offered so much

  16. CatCross

Our driver Basil was timely, informative and very engaging-very disappointed in each and every winery-never got even a brief history of the vineyard, nor even the most basic of information of the wines we were trying-they were poured and then the representative simply left and we were “on our own”

This was amazing. A wine tour that will leave you nothing to whine about. Guide was a legend, every place was beautiful with great wine. A truly amazing day!

  18. Tor_S

Amazing trip into a beautiful countryside in the South African Wineland. Excellent guide in Chris and a diversity in travel companions from various countries made the day unforgettable. The three wine producing sites were as taken from an old romantic painting and majority of the wines were excellent. Great fun with the tram and that old Massey Ferguson picking us up from the tram station and crossing the fields to get us to the last wine farm. Would most certainly do the trip again ! And for sure I will look for some South African wine when getting home

Great day touring the the vine yards. Basil was our guide, and was very informative on the history of Cape Town and the townships whilst on our way to the vine yards. We stopped at one vine yard in each location, sitting on verandas over looking the vine yards and mountains to look around the barrels etc. we had a good wonder around stellenboch and had a good hour extra in franschhoek for lunch before the wine tram and a glass of something lovely. Great full day out. Would recommend this trip as get a good flavour of the wine regions of South Africa.
