So interesting! I’m so glad we had the guided tour and were able to skip the line, which was more than a block long! Tour guide was informative, but the echoing in the cistern made it sometimes difficult to hear.

We found the guide very easily & went inside the cistern in about 10 mins. The guide brifed us about the cistern & then went away saying that we could explore on our own. We saw that other groups were being taken around by their guide! There was no need to book this tour! We could have done it on our own

The Basilica Cistern is stunning!
Beautifully illuminated, giving a sense of drama in an incredible historic space.
Our guide was easy to find, holding his red flag in an area near the exit, just as described in the booking confirmation. After a shirt wait for the remainder of the tour group, we skipped the very long queue and proceeded through a quick security check. We were then given a brief history of the Cistern by the tour guide.
Our time was theb ours to explore the amazing cistern.
The cistern is simply incredible, the size and scale of the underground water chamber is mind blowing.
The lighting and artwork throughout the cistern adds incredible drama and creates a unique photogenic atmosphere.
Any trip to Istanbul won’t be complete without a stop at the Basilica Cistern.
For anyone wondering if there us any value in purchasing this tour as opposed to simply buying a ticket online or in person and then lining up to get it – I guess that decision comes down to how much would you pay to avoid standing in a line for over an hour. To be honest, there’s no real value in the brief history given by the tour guide – This ‘tour’ is really just the cost of skipping the queue.
For me, the extra AUD$15 or so was definitely good value to avoid skipping the hour long queue.

The cisterns are amazing, my one star is for this tour. You’re better off to just buy the ticket that allows you to skip the lines and read about the cisterns right there on the spot or online or get the audio tour. The guide adds nothing that interesting, it’s very hard to hear inside and his time with the group is about 20 min tops. You’re better off doing it on your own.

We were met promptly and at the meeting spot communicated via email. The guide went down with us explaining what we were seeing in the cistern. He talked for about 20 minutes explaining the history and other interesting aspects. He stayed after his lecture to answer any questions we had. We then had all the free time we wanted to wander and take pictures. This tour was excellent as the day prior the line to buy tickets was over an hour. This way, I could see many sights in Istanbul in 1 day.
