I am so glad I did this tour as part of a recent two-week trip to Tokyo — it was a highlight for sure. Yuko was an outstanding tour guide — all five of the people on my tour agreed unanimously. She told us from the start that she was leading a “cultural tour of Japan through food” and she delivered. Yuko was responsive to particular interests in the group, including a desire to try fresh uni. She clearly knew the market and guided us to the best places, including the freshest tuna imaginable, the merchant who supplies tea and nori to half of the Michelin-starred restaurants in Japan, and a coffee shop that John Lennon and Yoko Ono used to go to. She averted disaster quickly and smoothly when two restaurants we had as lunch options were closed or booked — our group hardly noticed the hiccup in plans. Beyond being an wonderful tour guide, Yuko was a fun conversationalist at lunch. I cannot recommend this tour enough, both for real “foodies” and complete novices at Japanese culture.

Yuko was an amazing host. She got us a few things off the menu like strawberries and seaweed samples because of her connections with the local vendors. The sushi meal at the end is included in the price which I found to be delicious and a great value. Thank you Yuko!

Our tour guide Tetsu was our favorite our whole time in Japan. Super friendly, easy going, kind and excellent knowledge on the market. The sushi restaurant for lunch was the best sushi we had – there was such a long line that we would have had to wait in without Tetsu, that alone was worth the tour! Thank you Tetsu for being so kind 🙂
