A Day in the Arctic: Exploring the Norway Fjords of Tromsø by Electric Catamaran

If you are looking for an unforgettable adventure in the Arctic, you should definitely consider taking a fjord cruise by electric catamaran in Tromsø. This is a unique way to experience the stunning scenery and wildlife of the north, while enjoying the comfort and silence of a hybrid-electric boat. In this blog post, I will share with you my experience of this amazing tour, and why I think you should book it too!

What is a Tromsø Artic fjord cruise by electric catamaran?

A fjord cruise by electric catamaran is a tour that takes you on a 4.5-hour journey through the bays, straights, and fjords of Tromsø, which are rich in history and marine life. You will board a modern and eco-friendly catamaran, powered by batteries and solar panels, that can cruise silently and smoothly through the water. This allows you to get closer to nature and wildlife, without disturbing them or polluting the environment.

The tour is operated by Brim Explorer, a company that specializes in sustainable and innovative marine experiences. They have a team of friendly and knowledgeable guides, who will share stories and facts about the local culture, history, and nature, while keeping an eye out for wildlife. You will also have access to warm and cozy indoor lounges, with panoramic windows that offer fantastic views of the Arctic landscape. You can also purchase drinks and a hot lunch on board, or bring your own snacks if you prefer.

What can you see and do on the tour?

The tour starts from the pier next to Skarven Kro Restaurant in Tromsø, where you will meet your guide and board the catamaran. You will then set sail and explore the beautiful fjords around Tromsø, which are surrounded by snow-capped mountains and islands. You will see landmarks like the Arctic Cathedral, a striking white church that stands out against the blue sky, and the Tirpitz-platen, a concrete platform that was used by the German battleship Tirpitz during World War II.

One of the highlights of the tour is the chance to see wildlife, both above and below the surface. You might spot seals, dolphins, porpoises, or even whales, depending on the season and conditions. You will also see a variety of seabirds, such as gulls, cormorants, and eagles, soaring in the sky or diving for fish. The crew will use an underwater drone to show you the rich marine life that lives in the clear and shallow waters, such as fish, crabs, starfish, and seaweed. You will also visit a local fish farm, where you can learn about the fishing industry and its challenges.

Another highlight of the tour is the stop at a small fishing village, where you can step ashore and explore the local life and traditions. You will see the typical wooden houses, the fish racks, and the boats, and smell the local delicacies, such as dried cod and smoked salmon. You will also learn about the history and culture of the island communities, and how they have adapted to the harsh and isolated environment.

The tour is very well organized, the staff are welcoming and the boat is very nice. The view from the boat is indescribable, it allows you to see the city and the fjord from a different perspective. The stop at the former fish farm is also very informative. I would definitely do it again!

It was a super fun and educational experience. We left early in the morning but on the boat you could get a nice cup of coffee to wake up. The guide’s information was presented in a fun way that didn’t make it boring. Although it was foggy, we still saw beautiful things, partly because of the underwater camera.

A young team very friendly and invested in biology, ecology and climate and who share their passion with us We had the chance to see killer whales very very closely as well as eagles but no luck for whales Our level of English not being great it was sometimes difficult for us to understand everything well but we were able to grasp the essentials
