I had the opportunity to join this cruise last week, and I can honestly say it was one of the best days of my life. Here are some of the highlights of this amazing tour:
The Yacht
The yacht we sailed on was called Stella Oceana, and it was a beauty. It had two outer decks, a spacious and warm interior saloon, a fully equipped kitchen, a bar, and a hot tub. Yes, you read that right, a hot tub. Imagine soaking in the warm water while admiring the snow-capped mountains and the icy waters around you. It was a dream come true.
The crew was also very friendly and professional. They welcomed us on board with hot drinks and snacks, and gave us a safety briefing and an introduction to the yacht. They also provided us with warm suits, boots, and gloves to keep us comfortable during the cruise.
The Fjords
The cruise lasted for about five hours, and we explored several fjords around Tromso. The scenery was breathtaking, with dramatic cliffs, rocky islands, and frozen waterfalls. The colors were amazing, from the deep blue of the sea to the white of the snow and the green of the pine trees. The sun was shining, creating a beautiful contrast with the dark sky.
We also saw some incredible wildlife along the way. We spotted several eagles soaring above us, and some seals resting on the rocks. We even saw a pod of orcas swimming near the yacht. They were so close that we could hear them breathing and splashing. It was a magical moment.
The Lunch
One of the highlights of the cruise was the delicious lunch that was served on board. It was a traditional Norwegian meal of reindeer soup with fresh bread. The soup was hearty and warming, and the meat was tender and flavorful. The bread was homemade and soft, and perfect for dipping in the soup. It was a feast for the senses.
We enjoyed our lunch in the cozy saloon, where we could chat with the other guests and the crew. There were 12 of us on the yacht, so it was a very intimate and friendly atmosphere. We learned a lot about the history and culture of Tromso and the fjords, and shared some stories and laughs.
The Polar Plunge
After lunch, we had the option to upgrade our tour and experience something truly exhilarating: a polar plunge. This meant jumping into the freezing water of the fjord and then warming up in the hot tub. It sounded crazy, but I decided to give it a try.
I put on a life jacket and a safety rope, and climbed down the ladder to the water. As soon as I touched the surface, I felt a shock of cold that took my breath away. I quickly submerged myself and then came back up, feeling a rush of adrenaline. I climbed back up the ladder and ran to the hot tub, where I plunged into the warm water. It was an amazing sensation, and I felt so alive and refreshed.
The Return
The cruise ended with a relaxing sail back to Tromso, where we enjoyed some more hot drinks and snacks. We also got to see the city from a different perspective, with its colorful houses and majestic cathedral. We thanked the crew for their wonderful service and said goodbye to our new friends.
