I love our guide, she was so nice and sweet and explained everything perfectly. For the tour itself..it was AMAZING, seriously one of the best tours I’ve been on. (And of course the Museum itself was amazing)

I booked this excursion for my son who is an anime fan and went along for company and have to say it was so worth it. The meal was delicious and the hotel was simply beautiful, even the bathroom was gorgeous. Our guide was so knowledgeable and sparked my interest into seeing Studio ghiblis films eventhough this activity was not for me. This was really well done and I’m glad I got to enjoy this experience. Seeing and hearing how Mr. Mizuyaki was inspired to make his art was awesome and the ghibli museum was fantastic. My favorite section was the reading room and talk about beautiful watercolors, pai tings and sketches. Thank you for this experience.

Studio Ghibhli Museum was amazing! So scenic and so beautiful. I have a great respect for the staff and the architecture of this place. What a maze of adventure! I was able to see and touch most things which added to the experience. After this visit, I fell deeper in love with the animation and stories of Studio Ghibhli what a wonderful experience!

We chose the trip because it was the only way we could get tickets for the Ghibli museum – and the Ghibli museum was just as wonderful as we expected – but we actually really enjoyed the other two places visited as well, especially the outdoor museum. Our guide for the day, Honda, was entertaining and helpful. Note to any vegetarians considering this tour: the tour description says that there is no vegetarian option, but the hotel buffet in fact offered plenty of vegetarian food.

Good tour, but a few things could be better organized. People in the group were consistently late, cutting into the exhibit time. I felt like we spent too much time at the first location (wall art and lunch). The second location was cut short but I felt like I still got to see what I wanted at the site. The final stop was the Ghibli Museum. I was anxious to be on time so I could explore the museum fully.
I wish a loose itinerary could be provided in advance. It was stressful discovering the timing for everything the morning of the tour because I had to rush to my dinner reservation (left the tour early to independently take the train).
The sites were all interesting. The tour guide was very kind and informative. Pretty expensive for what it is, but guaranteed entry to Ghibli Museum.

We loved this tour! Michiko san was our guide. She was very engaging, sweet and gave us a lot of interesting information about Japan. We bought the tour mainly to go to studio Ghibli museum since all tickets were sold out. We loved the museum but the Edo architectural museum was actually a really interesting part of the tour. I would recommend it to anyone who loves the Ghibli movies!

We had an amazing time at the Studio Ghibli tour. We were first taken to the lunch buffet, delicious food. Then went to an open air museum, where we had some time to walk around the old bath house, stationary store which inspired a scene from Spirited Away. Michiko, our tour guide, was lovely and informative as she provided commentary on our bus journey. The next stop was studio Ghibli, couldn’t take photos inside but it was great to wonder around the exhibits and admire stained windows. It is a shame that we didn’t have an English speaking tour guide around the museum (as all material was in Japanese) but you could sort of make things out as there are many illustrations. Overall, I would highly recommend the tour!

The tour guide! She was so informative and passionate and really made the trip special. This tour was our favorite part of the whole trip to Japan!

  12. Katarzyna_K

Very interesting toor! The guide has a wide knowledge about Ghibli Studio’s films. Truly recommend it!

  13. Louis_C

The open air architecture museum was wonderful! It was very interesting to see how examples of older architecture have been preserved in Japan. The Ghibli museum was fun for the kids. The tour was great, and our guide Michiko was very knowledgeable. We enjoyed the tour very much!

  14. Adele_N

This was a very full day. The guide provided an amazing amount of background whilst travelling between sites.

I had a horrible time I wasn’t able to meet up in shinjuku I went to the ghibli museum and the people at JTB took a long time to reply (the whats app person ghosted me after a while) and when they did they told me to call a Japanese number I didnt have access to and reminded me it was my fault for not being in shinjuku even though I was at the museum they did not care and took over 2-4 hours to let me know anything and after that they were upset I left the area they didnt know the time slot of the ghibli museum or what goes on in the tour viator is just taking your money you will be dealing with the rude people at JTB that will tell you its your fault and there’s nothing they can do if you miss you tour guide , there refused a refund or compensation saying its my fault and they did nothing wrong . It ruin my day and im out of 150.00 usd whole being treated horribly

  16. Allyson_V

Michiko was the BEST! There are no English translations in the museum so she gave us some details beforehand so we knew what we were looking at. She also shared her knowledge of Tokyo/Edo and how Hayao Miyazaki was influenced by different pieces of Japanese culture and history. Thank you so much, Michiko-san!

  17. Tim_P

The stops obviously are the draw. I will say Michiko could not have been a kinder, funnier, and more interesting host. The amount of history she shared while keeping it interesting and retainable made me wish she could have walked through my entire trip. So happy to have gone. I was scared to book this excursion at first due to the higher cost and yet somehow still to good to be true value, but I will be happily looking for more trips from Viator in the future.

It can be quite difficult for a foreigner to get tickets to the Ghibili museum, but this tour includes the ticket. Though a full day tour, and more than the Ghibili museum, we were pleasantly surprised by the what we were Ble to see and do.
The tour includes a buffet style meal, which we did not know about, and it was quite good. It was done at a very nice hotel with a beautiful outside garden area and facilities.
We then went to an outdoor architecture museum which Miyazaki created a mascot for and where he potentially drew inspiration. We especially loved this part of the tour and didn’t realize it would be something we never knew we wanted to see.
Then once at the Ghibili museum we were given free time to explore on our own for a good 2.5 hours! It was a perfect relaxing day. I highly recommend it!

The tour was really great! The hotel they take you to for the buffet is gorgeous, and the food was excellent. They say there are no vegetarian options but there were plenty of delicious options. (I had even packed a lunch for myself just in case, but there was plenty for me to eat!)
The Edo Open Air Architecture museum was also great – it’s quite beautiful and was neat to walk through the old buildings and gardens.
Studio Ghibli was wonderful. It’s a small but whimsical. Some rooms are definitely more crowded than others and you often have to wait to look at things. It’s very inspiring, and it was so nice to get to see an exclusive short film that you can only see there at the museum!
We decided to stay in the area after the tour and walk around the Kichijoji area (highly recommend!)
    The only drawbacks:
There were some people on our bus who were talking while the tour guide was talking and it was super rude. They were also late coming back to the bus, so the whole bus had to wait for them before we could go. (I’m guessing they got the time wrong because they were talking over the guide…) Machiko, our tour guide, was so lovely, so I was frustrated on her behalf (and I could hear a few others were too).
There were some very sick people at the museum who were sneezing, sniffling, and open mouth coughing with no masks. They absolutely should have stayed home… (That’s more a criticism of humans in general, not the tour itself!)

The Ghibli Museum was awesome and the tour guide was funny and informative. I personally liked that they took us to other places besides just the Ghibli Museum. We still had plenty of time to explore the museum. It was also nice to have someone speaking English to us, after a long few weeks of not being able to talk with people, it was nice to turn our brains off for a day and speak to others conversationally.
