Our driver, Bryan (from Paddywagon) led us on this tour. The castle itself, is pretty cool. So much history within the walls. He was able to get us to the castle and queued up before many other tours arrived, which made the tour that much better not having to fight huge crowds. And kissing the Blarney stone, what a production! Lots of photo ops, plenty of time to explore and soak in the ambiance. The 2d half of the tour in Cobh (pronounced “Cove”) was equally intriguing. This port city is just outside of Cork, the main city in the south. Cobh was the last port of call for the Titanic and there is an interactive exhibit (Separate entry fee) related to the ship. There is much history in the town as well, as this deepwater port also hosts the Irish navy’s southern fleet. It is a very colorful, if small, town area that displays a small town Irish vibe replete with several good pubs in which to grab pint and have a very tasty and filling meal.

We had a wonderful day! And the weather was perfect! We spent the morning at the Blarney Castle site. If you have the opportunity to spend the day there, go there because it is really huge. A large park with the ruins of the castle and huge gardens, a village, shops, a garden of dangerous plants… really a lot of things to see. We spent a little over 2 hours there, just enough time to visit the castle and kiss the stone of eloquence, and to take a short walk in the park! After blarney, we went to Cobh, a pretty little fishing town. We visited the Titanic Experience, but if you don’t have time, you honestly won’t miss much. It was nice, but nothing more. However the city and the cathedral are very beautiful! Our guide, Jer, was great, he told us a lot of things, with a lot of humor! Thank you for this day!

On a website the end of the tour is given as 5.30 p.m., but I was back on the streets of Dublin by 3.30 p.m. If I had known that, I would have stayed longer in Cobh and driven back on my own. 55 euros are too much for these short distances including an entrance fee.
