Having been destroyed several times, the Osaka Castle was rebuilt in 1931. Some of the original turrets and walls still remain and are surrounded by a massive moat. Not surprising Osaka is known by the Japanese as the Nations Kitchen. Osaka Castle is one of the largest castles in Japan. There are two stations near the castle. Be aware of the castle operating hours as there is walk of about 20 minutes to the station. Allow yourself at least 3 hours if not 4 to see the whole castle and grounds. Climb up to the observation to admire the view. The outside of the castle looks authentic but the inside has been renovated to cater for tourists. Osaka Castle can be accesed via the Osakajokoen station. Wear comfortable walking shoes as it is a bit of a trek up the hill. There are dressed up Samurai warriors there for the perfect photo opportunity. The Osaka Castle has 8 levels. To access these it is a steep climb up stairs. Strollers and prams are not allowed in the castle. You can however use the in the grounds which are extensive.
