The Cascade Brewery In Hobart Tasmania

Welcome to my travel blog! Today, I’m excited to share with you about my recent visit to the Cascade Brewery in Hobart, Tasmania. As one of the oldest breweries in Australia, Cascade Brewery is a must-visit destination for beer lovers and history buffs alike.

Located in South Hobart, the brewery is situated at the foot of Mount Wellington and boasts a beautiful natural setting. As soon as I arrived, I was struck by the stunning scenery and the unique charm of the historic buildings. The brewery was established in 1824 by Peter Degraves, who had emigrated from England to Tasmania in search of a new life. He found a site with a natural spring and built the brewery there, using the water for his beer.

I started my tour of the brewery in the Visitor Centre, which offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of Cascade Brewery. The centre is housed in a beautifully restored 19th-century building that was once used as a brewery manager’s house. Here, I learned about the brewing process and the different types of beer that are made at Cascade Brewery.

Next, I went on a guided tour of the brewery itself. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the brewery and its history, and she led us through the various stages of the brewing process. We saw the ingredients being mixed, the fermentation tanks, and the bottling and packaging area. I was amazed by the scale of the operation and the attention to detail that goes into each batch of beer.

After the tour, I headed to the Cascade Brewery bar for a tasting. The bar is housed in a beautiful building with a large outdoor seating area, which offers breathtaking views of Mount Wellington. I tried a few different beers, including the famous Cascade Pale Ale, which was delicious. I also tried a cider, which was refreshing and perfect for a sunny day.

Overall, my visit to the Cascade Brewery was a highlight of my trip to Hobart. The history and heritage of the brewery, combined with the stunning natural setting and excellent beer, made for a truly memorable experience. I would highly recommend a visit to anyone visiting Hobart, whether you’re a beer lover or not.
