The Lightner Museum is home to one of the premier collections of fine and decorative 19th-century art in the country and is housed in the former Alcazar Hotel built in 1888 by Henry Flagler. The Museum’s eclectic collection ranges from a mummy, shrunken heads, cigar labels, buttons, salt and pepper shakers, to Tiffany glass, cut glass, stained glass, porcelain, fine art paintings, furniture and sculpture all housed throughout the four floors of the original Alcazar Hotel. On view from April 12 through June 16th is Edgar Degas: The Private Impressionist – Works on Paper by the Artist and His Circle Exhibition which offers unique insights into Degas’ inner world and the opportunity to see rarely exhibited works from the private collection of curator Robert Flynn Johnson.
