A great train journey, friendly staff with a handy commentary. Enjoyed the odd laconic extras from the Scottish (?) MC / conductor – very witty. Thought that NZR did a great job and it really showed the amazing diversity of the country plus the ingenuity and persistence of the people who created the route and the track. The only thing needed fixing was the occasional missing dialogue from the commentary, especially at what might have been some interesting info. Only a minor blip on what was a great day. Many thanks.

A gorgeous and comfortable ride with very friendly staff. We did a round trip in a day, which included a stroll around Greymouth between rides. Overall, the train ran late and we returned an hour after the scheduled arrival. But who cares when the views are magnificent? Could not have asked for more!

1. Cafe needs upgrading comparing it with overseas standards.
2. Audio was unsatisfactory – hit and miss – an important part of a journey learning history of the country.
3. Alarm continued in our carriage.
