Poor communication, as the trip was scheduled for first day, not accomplished until last day.
Buy SIM card upon arrival, so you can have Internet and a phone here!
Guide was personable, spoke great English, even helped us buy souvenirs in town and showed us the Mercury House, home of Freddy Mercury!
Highlight of trip was Giant Tortoises, which are fed at 1000 and 1600 daily!
Half Day trip was enough time to take in the sights of Prison Island. Don’t forget your camera!

Nice 30 minute boat trip out to Prison Is. once out there there wasn’t much to see, except the amazing Tortoises up to 192 years old. Loved Stone Town however and saw Freddy Mercurys house and restaurant. Fabulous town.

The Prison Island Tour is a quick hop from Stone Town in a small covered wooden show. The highlight is the giant tortoises that reside here, everything else including the snorkelling was pretty average

What a terrible experience. When we got to the island our tour guide explained the most obvious things such as: turtles like water. When we proceeded to visit the prison part of the island the trainee couldn’t explain anything. He could barely speak english. What we learned about the place we read at the entrance. He couldn’t answer basic questions such as “when was the prison built”. I would say paying for a guide here is a rip off. Just try to get a boat at the marine that takes you there and se the prison and pay for the turtle part yourself. When we were getting out it was so windy there were a lot of waves, we couldn’t even snorkel. So definitely go in the morning
