Variation of vegetarian food. Lovely side streets, very nice company, not rushed, great tourguide. Highly recommended.

Joshua was fantastic! He took us all around the Gion district & gave some context on Japanese culture before heading to our first restaurant. The food was great & meeting others on the tour was nice as well. 100% recommend!

  3. Franziska_S

Our tour guide was lovely and gave us a nice insight into Kyoto’s and Japan’s culture. The food was great as well and despite being vegetarian, the restaurants were quite accommodating towards this dietary restriction.
Would definitely recommend attending this tour. Thank you!

  4. Carmen_A

    Unique meats were very interesting!!
Joshua had great personal stories and experiences, which made it entertaining.

Really fun tour with two food stops. Both were small out of the way eateries with just locals. Our first stop was so crowded due to a baseball game on the screen that they ran out of chicken skewers. Our guide Leto instead ordered squid, corn, fried chicken and several other small plates.
Second stop was a standing bar with equally great food. Kobe beef and tuna sashimi. Between stops Leto led us through Gion and neighboring areas. We also visited a temple. All in all, a great tour and an ourstanding guide

Had a lot of fun on this one. Our tour guide Digi took us all over Gion, from Yasaka to Pontocho. Throughout the way she was full of information, trivia and oddities of Kyoto culture and history. Along the way we hit two bars, getting a drink and small plates at both.

We had a tour with this company in Osaka and it was TERRIBLE! To the point that we left mid way through the tour as the guide was arrogant. We were very nervous about this one as it was the same company, but we got so lucky that we got Maia! She was FANTASTIC!!!!! We also had a great group of fellow travellers, but Maia made sure we felt welcomed and that we got to try a whole bunch of different foods and drinks. All because of her, we had the best time!

Highly recommend to learn about the history of the area and enjoy delicious food. Kevin was a fantastic guide. I enjoyed learning about the history of each dish.

  9. Robert_M

Very good overview of Gion area, Geiko culture and plenty of food. Get the Wagyu beef. It’s excellent. Our guide Michi was great

  10. Sharon_C

Michi was an excellent guide and provided us with lots of invaluable insight on Japanese culture and customs. We loved her! That being said, this was our third food tour in Japan and the food and drinks on this tour were minimal and not that great.

  11. Kelly_C

We had the absolute BEST tour with Diogo! He was so knowledgable about the food, culture, language, and local insights. The food was delicious, filling, and authentic to Kyoto (Obanzai). Felt like we really got a great tour of the Gion/Pontocho area, and loved how small of a group our tour was. Truly this tour exceeded our expectations in every way – book this one and request Diogo!!

  12. Anson_F

Great way to get to know Osaka and eat some great food. Richard had some great knowledge about the culture

  13. Daniela_O

Food offered was amazing. They made sure all dietary restrictions were well covered with delicious options and drinks.
Tour felt personal and local, but they history knowledge was not impressive.

  14. Ritu_S

Our tour guide, matthew, was fantastic. The tour gives a great history lesson walking around gion and surrounding areas. He answered all our questions and was very insightful. The food was really good too. However, giving 4 stars because it is not enough food to fill you up if you do not get the add on beef. The remainder of the food is only very small appetizers – both myself and my husband left hungry. It ended at around 10pm and few restaurants were open to get more food after. For the price paid here, they should increase the food received

Tomas was a great guide. Upbeat and happy to answer questions. We were lucky enough to see a maiko and two geisha. We ate at two tiny restaurants you would be unlikely to find without a guide. Delicious wagyu, tempura, sushi, and sake. A wonderful way to see Gion at night.

Wonderful wonderful tour , we were booked on another tour but switched to this one due to clash with another engagement and it was sooo good . We met first at Gion theater, went to the shrine and then walked along some beautiful roads , had food in 2 places and the food was amazing , our guide a young lady from North Carolina who lives in Japan was excellent ( cannot remember her name )

  17. Jesse_K

Thomas was great, but there should have been a clear warning that the second restaurant would have a lot of smokers and little options, non meat options, and small plates shared by multiple people. The first place was great, but ended with disappointed.

Great tour around the back streets of Gion. Michi was a fabulous guide and highlighted lots of local sights we would have missed on our own. The food at the two venues was delicious. Thoroughly recommend

Had a great time with Thomas and a small group of six. Very pretty and informative tour, good food, beer and Sake!

Our tour guide Maya was great – very knowledgeable! The tour is a good mix of historical architecture, cultural insights, and the food was also excellent. We would highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Kyoto.
