Athena is an engaging and knowledgeable guide who draws on her many years of experience working on the island as an archaeologist to tell you all about Delos.
The tour was informative and enjoyable. At every stop Athena would go into detail about the history of the island, often with a joke or two!
There are many cats on the island and Athena would regularly pull out a bag of dry cat food to feed them whilst continuing to talk about the history of Delos.
At the end of tour we had an hour to explore by ourselves before the boat departed. Just enough time to climb to the top of a mountain to take in the view.
Tip: Get to the ticket office at the harbour early to exchange your voucher for your tickets. We arrived at 9:30 and joined the back of a long queue. We got our tickets just before 10:00 (when the boat was due to depart)!

The trip was OK. The issue I had was that the guide, although very passionate and informative, did not speak English clearly. When you combine that with a large amount of facts, difficult names, dates and events she began to lose her audience. Several others on the tour had made the same comment.

Delos is a very interesting island and really worth a visit. It was useful to have a guide but you can also probably do it on your own with a downloaded audio pack, it might help to soak up the atmosphere a bit better. Make the effort to climb to the top of the big hill.
