Loved visiting the fish market at the beginning of our glorious day. Jimmy was the best guide and such a joy.

  2. Sharon_C

A very good day out. Jimmy the chef provided some fantastic food in various locations including 3 vineyards.

Lovely to visit the Hunter Valley for the first time. This was a good way to do that; however we had expected to be eating at the Vineyards – this tour included food cooked by the Tour Guide/Chef in different locations – but was not food from the restaurants in the Hunter Valley. It had a way to go to be gourmet.

Going to the fish market is a creative and excellent idea. Everything was very well timed. The information, not only about food and wine, but about the region was interesting and well delivered. The food, chosen to pair with the wine was well portioned, which made imbibing much more pleasant. The only thing that prevented us from giving a 5-star rating was the choice of wineries: It did not show the valley at its best.

The morning began with a visit to the Sydney Fish Market-for a couple of reasons: to obtain coffee and pastries, to appreciate the diversity and volume of fresh seafood and to see some of the local produce (oysters, “bugs”, shellfish, beautiful fresh fish of great variety), to see the auction floor where fish are sold and bought, but most importantly, for our chef Jimmy to purchase fresh product for our consumption later in the day.
We had a delightful drive (with commentary) through Sydney suburbs to the oyster farms on the Hawkesbury River to Brooklyn for a delightful picnic breakfast- I especially enjoyed the veggimite toast, the fresh grilled banana bread with banana rum butter.
We then enjoyed a fun sushi-making class using some of the earlier-purchased ingredients.
We heard kukaburros but could it convince them to appear in scene- kangaroos were about, hopping or relaxing in some of the meadows.
The boutique wineries were very interesting and their hosts were knowledgeable, entertaining and very congenial. We enjoyed flights of tastings. At one winery we paired our sushi rolls with wine samples. At other wineries there was a delightful pairing of wines with a lovely selection of amuse-bouches (more from the morning purchases plus much more).
Our chef-driver-host Jimmie was very congenial, jolly, positive, entertaining. He was a fabulous chef, taking great personal delight in creating lovely food pairings and sharing his experiences, describing the ingredients and preparation processes.
This tour was not your typical winery tour (emphasis on drinking) but more of a gastro experience and a food-pairing experience. One of the best planned and executed tours that I have experienced. I would not hesitate to recommend this tour to anyone. Well done Jimmie!

Jimmy was the best host. This is a one of a kind tour. He’s a professional chef and will cook just for you. You learn to make your own sushi. It’s great rain or shine. The fish market is INCREDIBLE. It feels expensive because of price point but it’s a 12-hour tour. Value is well worth it. It’s amazing.
You can nap on the way back so pack something comfy to lean on (2 hours).
Check the pickup time – it’s between 6:30 and 7am but not automatically 6:30 like you think.
Cannot recommend more highly. DO THIS. You will not be disappointed.

This day trip is a must-do, one of a kind experience – so very glad that we experienced this fantastic outing! Jimmy is a chef who now takes a max of 14 guests on a day trip you’ll never forget. He took us first to the Sydney Fish Market, early morning so fun to see the workings of the market come alive in the morning. He gave us a tour and he made purchases which he would be using the rest of the day. I don’t want to give all of the secrets away, but the next stop was a charming spot on the Hawkesbury River where Jimmy prepared breakfast for us, incredible! Then, on to 3 small boutique cellar door wineries(Earnest Hill, Pokolbin Estate and Saddler’s Creek) for tastings and in depth explanations. Jimmy prepared food at each of the wineries, pairing the food with the wine. Along the way, we saw wild kangaroos and many birds. Jimmy is entertaining and informative. We learned so much about the history of the area along the drive. Tremendous experience, don’t hesitate, book it!

This was one of the best tours we have ever taken from the start at the fish market to sampling wine at 3 wineries with great food prepared all day by the Chef. What a great experience with activities all day long. Well worth the price.

We had a great time on this tour. The tour covered everything outlined. It’s a fun and relaxed tour. It’s a great way to discover the region wineries. James is a great cook. There’s enough food throughout the day that we even skipped dinner!

Traveling with chef Jimmy to the Sydney fish market and Hunter Valley wine region was one of the best tours imaginable! Along the way he cooked for us and taught us how to make sushi. At the boutique wineries we had a chance to pair wines with the wonderful foods he prepared. He was super organized and very knowledgeable, navigating smoothly through the city into the beautiful countryside. I would highly recommend this tour for a lovely day trip from Sydney.

Went on this tour prior to a long cruise. This far exceeded my expectations and was a wonderful experience. Jimmy is just the best. As both a tour guide and chef, Jimmy was just outstanding. The group size was just right. The length of the tour and the shared experiences allowed us to get to know our fellow tourists as well. We started out at the Sydney Fish Markets (which could be a tour by itself), then drove to a picturesque town/park for Jimmy-prepared breakfast. Fantastic. Jimmy then provided the ingredients and taught us how to roll our own sushi (to be consumed later in the day). After a bit of a drive to Hunter Valley to the first of 3 wineries, the wine tasting began. At the second winery, Jimmy began bringing out food pairings for certain wines. No matter what was needed, Jimmy seemed to have it in his little kitchen in the back of the van. This continued through the 3rd winery where we eventually got to eat our home-made sushi. The 3 wineries all had interesting histories and wines. But adding the food tastings/pairings to some of the wines was unique in my experience of many wine tasting tours. I don’t think any of us really noticed when it started raining at the last winery.
The ride back to Sydney from the Hunter Valley was a bit long and it was well after dark when we got back to our hotel. So be prepared for a long and full day. I can’t think of a better way to spend a day, though. I will always look back on this tour as the best experience we had in our short visit to Sydney.

Jimmy was an excellent guide. The tour was great and the food superb. We has a fantastic time and would highly recommend it. Great job Jim and keep up the good work. Thanks for all the tips.

Wonderful wine tasting experience- great presentations at each winery and lots of great sights along the way. Chef Jimmy is a magician with his van kitchen- breakfast, wine tasting menu along the way and still thinking about the crème brûlée

This is a great experience! Jimmy is so fun and informative and of course is an amazing cook! I love the fish market seeing kangaroos out in the vineyard. Wine and food was great! Thanks Jimmy for such a great day!

Jimmy is such a wonderful chef and informative guide. We went to the fish market, and then later we made a sushi roll with fresh seafood he bought at the market. It tasted delicious with soy sauce! And of course, the food he prepared for us was the best dish I had while I was in Sydney! I totally enjoyed the whole experience. I would love to take the tour again!
