Description

Ancient Trees of Vancouver Walking Tour USD 56.93. This is Vancouver’s only ancient big tree tour. Within walking distance from downtown Vancouver you will be guided by well known big tree seeker Colin Spratt through Vancouver’s last ancient forest located in historic Stanley Park. The tour lasts around 2 hours and in that period of time you will visit Canada’s largest maple tree, 1000 year old cedars, massive firs, and you will also learn about the history of the park and the history of the original coast Salish people who called the park home. We will walk various trails in the park and see the most impressive giants still standing. Some of these giants are hidden unless you know where to look. Using old maps, postcards over a hundred years old, and photos from Vancouver’s archive, we piece together the history of the ancient forest and the urban environment. This is a completely unique chance to experience the last remaining part of Vancouver’s now lost original forested landscape..

Not only is Colin knowledgeable about the trees of Stanley Park, he has a passion for them as well! Colin shared historical accounts and stories about Stanley Park and connected those stories with the trees of present-day. The path we walked was easy to navigate and absolutely gorgeous. I thought it was a fantastic tour, and being able to connect with these big beauties was truly an honor!

Colin is a true expert in his field and his mission as an ancient tree CONSERVATIONIST (not to be confused with an arborist) moved us to the core. Truly one of the most inspiring moments of our trip. We left more educated and awe inspired by this dwindling and critically vital ecosystem. the trees will blow your mind! His articulate retelling of the First Nations peoples’ and their plight in the area brought deeply moving awareness Colin is a wonderful guide and a gift to this land.

Was travelling solo and Colin was a wonderful and knowledgeable tour guide that takes you through the depths of Stanley Park and explains to significance and history of some of Canada’s oldest and most important trees. Gained a ton of new knowledge and appreciation for the trees I never even knew existed. Definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Vancouver and wanting to see Stanley Park.

The Ancient Trees of Vancouver walking tour was the highlight of our trip! Colin contacted us and rearranged our meeting time due to inclement weather, gave detailed meet-up information, and was incredibly informed about the subject. He had maps, news articles, antique postcards, and photographs (all laminated), which added to his immense knowledge of the site – especially the trees. It was an experience we will never forget. I couldn’t recommend it more. Fascinating, thorough, and spiritually centering. Even my 19 year old son enjoyed the 2+ hour hike through this amazing Park.

Colin is a Vancouver treasure. His knowledge and passion were non-stop. If we had only one thing we could do in this beautiful town, all three (ages 60, 25, and 24) agree this tour would be it. Excellent in every way.
