I enjoyed the company and commentary of Rob, our driver on the way to and from Akaroa. We stopped several times at lookouts for photo opportunities and the information about the area was interesting and insightful. The town of Akaroa is a lovely little touristy place with interesting shops, a local market on the day I visited and an interesting private library and secondhand bookshop with many books about the local area. The 2-hour boat tour was amazing on the Black Cat Harbour Cruise. We saw many small Hector’s dolphins swimming with the bow wave of the boat, NZ fur seals on rocky outcrops and were lucky to spot the rarely seen yellow-eyed penguin making its way slowly down a cliff face.

The tour was very well organised; our tour guide Rob was friendly and provided a lot of information about Christchurch, earthquakes and Akaroa’s history. The day was clear and cruise was excellent and we got to see the dolphins, and the colony of seals. Overall we had a great time.

Lovely and easy day tour to Akaroa. Our guide, Scott, did a wonderful job and made the most of our time by taking us along the scenic ways to Akaroa and keeping us informed about the history of the area and answering my many questions. The ride onto the bay was fun and we saw Hectors dolphins, birds, seals, and beautiful views. This is an easier day tour than going to Kaikoura so if you’re looking for an alternative, this is it!

Great scenic son the road. Driver took different route on the return. That made the trip worthwhile. But driver picked up the group almost hour late after his promised time. Only to find out he did another service in between.

Such a relaxing trip with amazing scenery. We were really fortunate to make the morning cruise which gave us time to relax over lunch and then took a stroll around Akaroa. I wish that we could do sit-down tasting for the cheese.

What a special trip. The drive was made enjoyable by the lovely stops our guide and driver, Sally, took along the way. Up into the hills for amazing views over all of Christchurch and to small lovely towns en route. The harbor at Akaroa is magnificent and the view stop at the summit is breathtaking. The town itself is charming and had we more time I would have combed the many shops for treasures. As it was we had included a lunch which was on the bay with great views. The salmon was perfectly prepared and a treat. However the best part was the nature harbor cruise. We saw so many hector dolphins and families of seals up close and a baby penguin! The cliffs were stunning, pictures just could not capture all God had sculpted. Our cheese stop on the way back was fun and a great place to pick up a snack. I will end by saying I hope you all get Sally as a driver. She is incredibly competent and informative and also fun and friendly. Could not have asked for anyone better. By the way there was no sun and still marvelous

I came for the dolphins. I saw dolphins. Everything else was a nice bonus. Wasn’t a huge fan of lunch so if I did it again I would’ve skipped but it’s all personal preference. Knowledgeable commentary, friendly guide, & everything was sorted it’s a great day trip option if you have the time.

A great day (just 6 of us) with our lovely guide. She drove us carefully to scenic viewpoints and other stops (railway station, cheese farm). A bit of time to explore the town till we met at our lunch venue in Akaroa. Nice set menu choices. In the afternoon we enjoyed a two hour cruise in the bay, spotting Hector dolphins, blue penguins and seals. Driven home back to our hotel. Lovely varied day trip.

The tour bus was not an acceptable vehicle for this tour. The seat were small,only fit for airport run. To small and crowded together with no leg room. The windows were small given little or no view. Would recommend checking what vehicle would be used before going on this tour.
