Lisbon is a beautiful and historic city that offers visitors plenty to see and do. Here’s a 4-night itinerary to help you make the most of your time in Lisbon.
Day 1:
Start your day in the historic district of Alfama, which is known for its narrow streets, traditional buildings, and stunning views of the city. Take a walk around and explore the district’s winding alleys and charming squares. Be sure to visit the Castle of São Jorge for panoramic views of the city.
In the afternoon, head to Belém, which is home to some of the city’s most famous landmarks. Visit the Jerónimos Monastery, a beautiful example of Manueline architecture, and the nearby Tower of Belém, a fortified tower that once guarded the entrance to the city. Don’t forget to try the famous pastel de nata Portuguese custard tart at Pastéis de Belém, a bakery that has been serving them for over 150 years.
Day 2:
Spend the day exploring the vibrant neighborhood of Bairro Alto. This neighborhood is known for its lively nightlife, but during the day, it’s a great place to explore the colorful streets and check out the many unique shops and galleries.
In the evening, head to a fado house to experience the traditional music of Portugal. Fado is a type of music that is often compared to the blues and is typically performed in small, intimate settings.
Day 3:
Take a day trip to the nearby town of Sintra, which is known for its stunning palaces and castles. Visit the colorful and eclectic Pena Palace, the medieval Moorish Castle, and the stunning Quinta da Regaleira, a magical estate with beautiful gardens, tunnels, and secret passages.
On the way back to Lisbon, stop at Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe, for breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Day 4:
Spend your last day in Lisbon exploring the trendy neighborhood of Chiado. This neighborhood is known for its upscale shopping, trendy cafes, and beautiful architecture. Don’t miss the iconic Elevador de Santa Justa, a beautiful iron elevator that takes you from the lower streets of Baixa up to the higher streets of Chiado.
In the evening, head to the LX Factory, a former industrial complex that has been transformed into a trendy arts and cultural center. The LX Factory is home to a variety of shops, galleries, and restaurants, and is a great place to spend your last evening in Lisbon.
