We had been traveling in Egypt for several weeks and have booked five private tours through Viator. This was the only trip that could be described as a “nightmare”. Our driver and guide Tolba was unprofessional, unqualified, and had no knowledge of what he was showing us.
He picked us up late on day one, then stopped en route to pick up his girlfriend who stayed with us the entire trip on what was meant to be a private booking. The girlfriend constantly slowed us down, delaying our departure at many stops, and the driver began fighting with his girlfriend on day two, shouting at her, which was so awkward and uncomfortable for us.
Tolba didn’t know Siwa. I’m not sure I believe him when he says he’d been there before. He was constantly stopping and asking locals for directions and driving in circles. We didn’t visit all the stops in the advertised itinerary and he tried to skip visiting the temple as it had admission fees. After we insisted on going inside, Tolba waited outside, so we had no guide to offer us insights into what it was.
Tolba was always late. On day two we agreed to meet at 5:30am for sunrise; he came at 7:20am and we missed the sunrise. Later that day we agreed to meet at 4pm to see sunset; Tolba was on time, but his girlfriend came at 4:47pm so we waited in the hot car for 47 minutes and very nearly missed the sunset. On day three we were supposed to meet at 8am; Tolba came at 9:04am. Then, on day three, as we were driving back to Cairo he stopped for 28 minutes at the market so his girlfriend could buy spices, leaves, and dates. I was simmering with anger over this as we just wanted to get back to Cairo, the car had no air conditioning, and it was just so hot.
Tolba smoked cigarettes in the car with the windows down and refused to turn on the air conditioning to save on gas.
In Siwa we had an amazing local driver Sanosy who took us to the sand dunes. Sanosy was kind, funny, and took his job very seriously. It was also obvious there was tension between Sanosy and Tolba because of the girlfriend. On day one, at the oasis, Sanosy wanted us to move on to see the next sight but Tolba’s girlfriend was still in the hot spring. Sanosy kept telling her to come on, we have to go, but Tolba was indifferent and said nothing.
Very little was included and Tolba expects you to pay for almost everything. We did not have lunch on any day. If we stopped at a gas station to buy water or soda we had to pay for it. (One exception: on day one we were given two packs of Doritos and one small bottle of water to share between two people.)
On day two, at the sunset location, we ordered tea from a local restaurant and the driver’s girlfriend ordered coffee. When the check came, we had to pay the entire bill, even for the girlfriend’s coffee. We didn’t even want her there! At the dinner restaurant, Tolba tried to get us to pay the entire check again. This time I looked at my guest and said I thought dinner was included. I said I would call the tour operator to check. Tolba quickly said don’t call them, I will call and check. He then called his manager who said dinner and soft drinks were included. We didn’t pay anything in the end. But I do think the driver was trying to scam us.
We were asked constantly to leave a five star review for this tour. Tolba even asked us at our hotel, five minutes after picking us up, to leave a five star review! I said I would leave an honest review and that I am excited for the trip. But being asked several times a day to leave a review is frustrating and annoying — especially when you are not doing your job.
Tolba asked us multiple times to take his photo or to take photos of him with his girlfriend. He often forgot to ask us if we wanted a photo and we had to then ask him to take our photos.
At the Salt Lake, Tolba tried to force us to record a video giving him a “five star review”. I said NO I do not want to be in your video. Tolba kept asking and this made me feel very comfortable. One, I was in my bathing suit. Two, this is not a five star tour.
Then, on the way back, on a day with 10 hours of driving already, we had to go out of the way to Marsa Maktruh (adding an hour of travel time) to drop off the girlfriend. He then waited at the bus station with her for 20 minutes for her bus to come, leaving us in the car waiting. It was so disrespectful of our time and I am still angry about this.
Don’t get me wrong, Siwa and its oasis is definitely worth visiting, but don’t book this tour.

An incredible 2 days in Siwa!! It’s a long drive from Cairo but definitely worth it! Our drivers Islam and Ahmed made sure we had everything we need to be comfortable including some road trip snacks and took plenty of bathroom stops for me and my tiny bladder. We were lucky enough to have the owner of the company Gamal join us in Siwa and he helped us take some amazing photos and was able to answer any questions we had. We learned so much and we’re so well looked after. Sanoosi was our driver in the desert and he took us up and down the dunes which was loads of fun! He makes some amazing Siwa tea as well! We had a local Siwan guide, Abu, who knew so much about the area and Siwan culture and history. The whole trip was just incredible, one of our most treasured moments in Egypt, I wish we could do it all again.

The trip to Siwa was the absolute highlight of my two weeks trip to Egypt. I can’t believe how much happened in only 3 days. Ahmed, our tourguide, is an absoute legend. I could really see how much he loves what he is doing. He even organized a little birthday party for one of our group. He would do everything to make all our dreams come true! Also a big thank you to the team of “The Dream Lodge”. Could not have wished for a better place to stay!

This tour was perfect and it brought us to see the many sights that we wanted to visit in Siwa. Hacom our guide was very very helpful and was flexible in allowing us to enjoy the activities we liked more.

Fantastic tour, cannot rate this high enough. Tour guide and driver were very professional. Definitely worth the long drive from Cairo.

Our trip to Siwa was amazing thanks to Mohammed & Sanosy who made this an incredible experience for us. Mohammed was our guide for 3 days and taught us a lot about Siwa, the culture and showed us amazing places, always with a fun and kind attitude.
Siwa is a beautiful place full of nice people with open arms to tell you more about their cultures.
The downside of this trip was really the hotel in Siwa – the dream lodge. Even though the exterior was beautiful, the rooms were very cold and dirty. There was AC but it was broken, there was hair in the sink, dead mosquitos everywhere and dust all around.
We are super happy we decided to do this trip so we need to share this feedback for improvement. Visit Siwa and we hope you can be lucky to have Mohammed & Sanosy as your guides.

This tour should be in everyone’s bucket list!!!
My trip to Siwa was a wonderful
experience, our tour leader Mohammed was the perfect person to show us around Siwa. He was both welcoming and fun to be around with. He even helped me conquer my fear of water.
I couldn’t have asked for a better experience with Siwa. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Egypt.

It was a fun and memorable experience in Siwa, I am glad that I made a decision to squeeze this tour in my 10 days trip. it turns out to be my best time in Egypt. Our tour guide, Ahmed, is thoughtful and knowledgeable. He kept us entertained throughout the trip. we have seen and done so many things in just 2 days. My favorite parts are the starry night hot bath, turquoise salt lake, sunset desert & sandboarding…. Siwa is such a hidden gem, i would definitely recommend this tour to my friends

Visited the Siwa Oasis for three days, with Matea a Croatian girl who had also booked the trip. It was an amazing experience, the place is full of charm and magic, you can´t miss it. The small village, the hotspring waters, sleeping in the camp at night, the dessert, sand boarding, trying olives, dates, couscous and new food, feeling the hospitality of Siwan people, it was a life changing experience for me.

  13. Olivia_M

Amazing people and experiences. The enthusiasm of the tour guide really made the moments unforgettable, stunning sites and great information about the history of the area.

In overall Siwa is one of the best place visited worldwide ever done, there is a unique culture which is preserved with uniques sightseeing. It is one of the best spot for pictures from the desert to the oasis.
The guide Akhmad for the full three days is available at any time with you to please all your requests and make you enjoy at the maximum the visit. He will arrange everything for you. There is a complete full team making your trip awesome. Activity 200% recommended

I want to express that because our experience on the cruise was not a good one we were already expecting the same. HOWEVER it was not the guide Ahmed from Tourista I believe was the best we laughed screamed and enjoyed ourselves. My sister left early due to the beginning of the trip being terrible but I would of begged her to stay if I’d known what was to come. If you were contemplating on whether this is worth doing don’t it is. Ahmed made sure we had snacks breaks for the loooong ride answered all our questions we had a party on wheels lol. Egypt is definitely a historical type of trip but Siwa is where I found it spiritually pleasing. Going with an open mind you will be able to see the beauty I did feel like Betty rubble when staying at the hotel thT was great and the soap was nice The dessert oooh one of my favorites Ahmed gave us the music to our crazy sand during big up to the driver and the sunset Hey you just gotta go. The salt lagoon thingy was invigorating relax relate release. THIS WAS THE BEST PART OF MY VACATION. Please tell Ahmed Thank you

I’m a female travelling solo and I join this tour in a shared group and this was the absolute best tour ever!! Been travelling for months now across different countries and this is one of the best highlights from my travelling without a doubt.
The desert safari, sunset, and the Siwa town tour and traditions, all was very organised and a joy to participate.
Both camping and accomodations were clean and comfortable.
    All meals were delicious.
The place is safe and the people just have a way of welcoming you that really melts my heart.
A BIG shout out to Ahmed our lead tour guide and Mohamed our driver, both are amazing people and definitely made a difference to how this adventure turned out to be. They brought the fun, the comfort, safety and a lot of laughs. You can’t resist their big hearts! Thank you for making this trip to me so amazing!

I’m at the airport with tears in my eyes looking back at the photos to write this review, let me add they don’t do Siwa justice. The Siwan people are kind, honest and Siwa- well, one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. I felt like I was in a Disney set the entire time. Our driver Ahmed and tour guides including safari driver were all incredible and went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and relaxed! From the moment we were picked up till we were dropped off everything ran on time and smoothly. I might add this tour is completely jam packed with activities, ancient sites and experiences. There really is no time for social media so just enjoy everything they have to offer and have a break from your phone (you’ll get plenty of great content don’t worry). All food and snacks provided were amazing & definitely recommend sleeping under the stars. Siwa is incredibly safe we were 2 young solo female travellers who felt completely safe the entire time, everyone was very warm and friendly towards us. Honestly, If I had one wish it would be to bring the rest of my family back to enjoy this experience with me one day, Inshallah. God bless everyone involved in bringing this truely special and unique experience together. I will remember this trip forever. My heart is so full. Thank you Siwa 🙏🏾 Lisa & Mel xx

This trip was amazing and so worth the journey. Our guide, Mohamed, was super knowledgeable, fun, and made us feel comfortable for the whole trip. This is an absolute must and Siwa is a beautiful place. Thanks Mohamed!

This was our honeymoon trip to Egypt, and this was the only tour operator we were with that made the trip a little bit more special for the occasion. Siwa was our favourite tour and we done the entire country, literally! The desert safari was the highlight for us, I could have spent a few more hours in the desert, there was plenty of history. All tours take you to these tourist preying shops, this was the only tour where I didn’t feel pressured to buy and the guide helped me know if I was going to overpay. Big shoutout to Ahmed, he is the best Egyptian we met. The lack of care for animals, littering etc we saw everywhere in Egypt, it was great to meet someone who showed respect for their home country, wild dogs knew him to emphasise this! I wish him and all involved with touritos the best for the future, highly recommend this tour! Another small note that we appreciated was the quality of the vehicle, the car provided is what we expected from all our tours across Egypt but only these guys had a nice modern and well maintained car, very comfortable for the long drive involved to get to Siwa

What an amazing tour! Everything was very well planned and the company was definitely higher quality than any of the tour companies we’ve booked with in Egypt. Our driver Ahmed was so nice, calm, and professional. Our tour guide Ahmed in Siwa was super fun and patient; also great at photography! Abu-Bakr was another great tour guide in Siwa who was very knowledgeable on the history of Siwa. The accommodation was good and so was the food. Our only regret is not learning about this tour company sooner in our trip, otherwise we would have booked every tour with them.

We enjoyed the whole experience because that’s what this was. It wasn’t an ordinary tour. People who drove and guided us were the soul of the tour. Siwa is a gorgeous place very different to the rest of Egypt. We’ve learned a lot along the way. Ahmed was an amazing driver and both Mohammed and Abu were superb. It was such an adventure. What we did not like were some of the meals – especially breakfasts at the accommodations (the one on the first day in Cairo was soo delicious).
