Kompong Phluk is a village located on the Tonle Sap Lake in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. The village is known for its stilted houses that rise above the water during the wet season and the forest of submerged mangrove trees surrounding it.

During the dry season, the Tonle Sap Lake’s water level drops, exposing the muddy lake bed, making it difficult for boats to navigate through the waterways. At this time, the village’s inhabitants move out to the surrounding areas, and the houses are left behind to stand on stilts.

Kompong Phluk is a popular tourist destination, and visitors can take boat tours to explore the village and its surroundings. The village also has a floating market, where locals sell fresh produce and seafood. Visitors can also observe the daily life of the villagers, including fishing, weaving, and cooking.

Kompong Phluk is also an important ecological site, as the mangrove forests surrounding the village provide a habitat for a diverse range of plant and animal species, including several endangered species. The forests also play a crucial role in protecting the land from erosion and reducing the impact of climate change.

We did the evening trip and overall was fantastic to see, very different experience to see the way the people live in the area, you really get to see it all and with enough time to enjoy it, you get to go on a little canoe boat with the locals to and go around the area

First we went to a fish market, then by boat through the “Floating Village”, then optionally by canoe through the mangroves ($5 pp) and finally admire the sunset in the middle of the lake. Tear, our tour guide, explained everything very well. We had a great afternoon – for us it was a very nice experience!

This is a trip worth doing while in the area. To begin with our guide Vuthy (a.k.a. Mr.T) was a great guide. You can tell he really loves his job and teaching you about his country, history, people, and culture. Our trip was well organized and Vuthy taught us along the way about the areas we visited. We visited a local market and I opted to buy a delicious fried banana. My tastebuds were so happy I should have bought two. The fishing villages is interesting to see. I am glad to know the money from tourism brought there is also used to support their community. I recommend this trip.
