My son and I took a trip to Dubai. One of the first places we went to was the museum of the future. We walked to the museum from our hotel. Once there, we checked in using a kiosk and getting our entrance bands. A 15 minute wait for our time to enter. Once inside, we had staff tell us about the future in 2071. We went through several different rooms and floors. Each floor had a unique look of the future. Anyway, I found the concept of the museum great. If only I could be alive in 2071 to see the outcome. If you are in Dubai and enjoy science fiction I would recommend going.

For me, the most enjoyable part of the experience was watching a robotic barista make a very nice flat white coffee, which was not included in the ticket price. I was looking forward to seeing a vision of the future but by the end of the mostly self-guided tour I was glad to exit into the present. It has laudable aims in presenting a warning of what humanity needs to do to survive and prosper but instead it just came over as underwhelming and actually quite dated. The interactive elements were brief and forgettable; press a button and stand back to watch a display or screen in certain cases. There was an exhibition describing current innovations but that was essentially an exercise in reading cards describing their intended use. I was hoping for the use of VR to bring things to life but was left disappointed.
Tickets were not cheap and had to be booked well in advance so keep that in mind if you wish to make up your own mind…as you should.
