Breathtaking! The train and the sky rail were both scenic and informative. Easy and we’ll organised by DUT. Great day.

Meeting very nice people, Train, Sky Rail, Butterfly centre, not many places to get sandwiches or decent cuppa
Kristopher_D –
Highly recommend. The logistics of being picked up and dropped off, where and when were clear and taken care of. Came to our hotel and dropped us off there too.
Recommend taking the train up to Kuranda for the scenery of valley’s and waterfalls and great start to the adventure. Added bonus: locals come out to wave you off. Then take the gondola down for breathe taking views of forest and coast line. Lots of information on local history too.

I chose my hotel for pick up but pick up wasn’t from our hotel. Wildlife & aboriginal dance, lunch were so boring. Too long to wait to train. After train, the driver didn’t turn up for us so we needed to pay extra money to other shuttle bus to take us to our hotel. Overall, we really feel wasted money & our day. Never comes back to this company
Jennifer_T –
I didn’t enjoy this as it was too expensive for what you got. Everything in Kuranda seemed run down. The day was too long and I wasn’t offered a choice of return times.
Luke_Y –
The journey is pretty average, I didnt have the option to choose the time. I was assigned with 8:30 pickup, 9:45 railway and 1:45 skyrail, which means we are only given 2-3 hours spent at kuranda.. You have to take a shuttle bus to travel to rainforest, which runs every hour, and you have to pay for it (think twice if you wanna go rainforest) I went army duck tour, which was pretty average…

Staff lovely
Great commentary
Scenery beautiful
Views magnificent
Marie_M –
Scenery was fantastic. Sky rail views are inspiring. Organized by professionals. Transport to and from stations ran like clockwork.
Leland_M –
The bus picked us up at our hotel on time. It was very easy and nice not to worry about how to get to the tour start and finish. The scenery from the train and gondola was beautiful. The village of Kuranda was quite a disappointment. Too much of a tourist trap with trinkets made outside of Australia. Not enough time allowed in the village to visit the birds, butterflies, or koalas. We were able to find a nice lunch spot but that was about all our allotted time allowed.
AnneMarie_B –
Fabulous journey. Loved hearing about the history of the train track and Kuranda. The sky rail down was spectacular, wonderful views of the area.
EMMA_K –
A relaxing way to travel to Kuranda. The train journey takes approx 2 hours to wind its way up the mountain, stopping along the way at Barron Falls station, where you can alight and take photos of the waterfall
Suitable for all ages/abilities
Dorelia_G –
Fantastic day tour we had the best time, so much to do and see great scenery and experiences very educational too
Stephen_L –
A lovely day trip, train quite nostalgic and great views, township very nice with lots of parts of the market to explore. Skyrail above the treetops a great way to get home!
Praneetha_A –
The combination of the cable car & train ride was great. This combined with the aboriginal show made it complete
Lindsay_G –
Amazing experience- the views were spectacular- a must do if you’re visiting Cairns- staff were all very good
Carolyn_K –
Railway was fabulous, but my schedule was changed at last moment. I did not get what I paid for, very disappointed
Flogo_N –
We went up on a hot Wednesday via Skyrail & returned via this historic train paid more for gold class – few nibbles & drinks. It was very hot before we left & the train runs approx 10km/Hr- take cool water sprays or cloths – lots of tunnels & good views/ our host was Andrew he was a delight & made the trip more enjoyable, great crew forever ensuring we had enough to drink. No ac or fans 1 brief stop
Patricia_B –
Skyrail was spectacular, train ride was incitefull and unique on heritage train, boat trip up river into rainforest was really informative
Jacqueline_S –
Both the scenic railway and Sky-rail were outstanding, but could have benefited from more time to explore all the fantastic options in Kuranda itself. Beautiful friendly town!

No communication from Down Under Tours about change in a pickup time from our hotel. We called them when the bus didn’t show up at pickup time shown in the Viator app, and tour operator said that bus missed us since the pickup time was changed! They asked us to rush to the railway station and talk to the ticket window to pickup the ticket for the train ride, we literally ran on the streets of the Cairns to make to the train station! We talked to ticket window, and the ticket agent first refused to give us the train ticket, we need explain them situation multiple times and finally got the train ticket. Overall not happy with the tour company, hope Viator makes sure that the tour operator uses Viator message feature to keep customer informed so it doesn’t happen to other travelers.
The train ride and sky rail was a nice experience, you could buy tickets from train/sky rail website with pickup from Cairns, so look for that option.
