Great guide and memorable experience. Easy to get back and forth from our ship. Kids 12/14 enjoyed as well.

We absolutely loved our tour, and it was well managed the whole way. (Our group included my husband, myself, and our 22 year-old twin boys.) Navigating from the cruise ship to the pick up location was simple, and the wait to be transported to Chacchoben was quick. We were given cold bottled water to drink. The van ride was over an hour because ours was a slower driver, but I felt ok with that! Our tour guide at the site, Carlos, was extremely informative- so much great detail and history in his talk- personable, and communicative about where to go, etc. The day we visited was VERY busy, but everything ran smoothly. I highly recommend this tour. Wear comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, and carry extra water.

Had a great time!!! Eliseo Estrada, our tour guide, was amazing and very knowledgeable! Highly recommended!!

Very informative and good experience. Guide was very cooperative and gave lots of good information. Best experience while being in Mexico for the first time.

Slow paced tour. Good for seeing the ruins. Easy walk. Clean cool bus. Newer guide was learning so not as comfortable yet with conversational humor etc but she will get there!!

We enjoyed seeing the ruins. They are tucked into a nice, shady jungle. It’s not too hot. And they’re really amazing to behold. I was less excited about the tour company’s lack of information—I had thought we’d be told interesting stories about Costa Maya on the 60- minute drive there and/or back, but this didn’t happen. Even at the actual site, the tour guide told us very little and seemed to be in a hurry. Toward the end, he told my family that we’d have a different guide on the way back and that we should immediately head back to the parking lot to get in the van. He then (literally) ran away from us, so fast that we couldn’t keep up with him. When we got to the parking lot, which was full of vans and buses from various tour companies, he was nowhere to be found, and we didn’t know which van we were supposed to get in. That was really scary for us. After asking around a lot, we got it figured out. But then we had another long, quiet, drive back to the cruise port. Overall, it would’ve probably been just about the same experience if we had taken a cab to the ruins on our own.

The tour guy was great. We were able to taste local cuisine tamales and fruits.
He gave us a great tour of the ruins. Very personable.

Took about 5-10 minutes of walk to their office due to the port’s shopping area design that makes the visitors walk through the entire place before you can leave the port. Once we arrive at the office, things went fast and we were on the bus the next minute. Our guide Renee was very detailed and knowledgeable about the local area and the Mayan site. Overall a great historical visit.

We had a wonderful time and loved the ruins. Toucan Tours and our guide Frine did a great job! They even picked us up at the port because it was raining, would recommend!

Our tour guide on the bus was Renee. She was great, easy to understand and very knowledgeable. However, our group had to divide at the ruins b/c of size and we were with another guide from the ruins. She was hard to understand, didn’t share a lot and finished 45 min before the other group so we just stood around waiting. Overall, the ruins were great. We even saw spider monkeys!

This tour was well organized and easy to navigate. We were picked up and transported out of the terminal to wear our tour bus picked us up and took us to the ruins. Juan Carlos was knowledgeable, professional and entertaining. My 5 year old, 16 month old and husband had a great time visiting the ruins and learning about Mayan history and culture.

Very knowledgeable tour guide! It is a little ways to get there but we had a great driver. Very knowledgeable about the ruins! Very nice! Great with children.

Victor, the van driver, was outstanding. He was friendly knowledgeable, took good care to make sure we are happy and safe. He explained about the surrounding areas and culture. He even took the time to stop at a Roadside fruit stand so that we could get some fresh pineapple and mango. The tour guide at the ruins was also excellent and knowledgable! ( Sadly, I forgot his full name, but it began with an E). He explained the Mayan society, social structure, and gave great insight into Mayan life. We gained a deeper appreciation for all the Mayan contributions to modern society

This tour exceeded our expectations. From the transportation, to the guide, to the site itself; the tour was over the Top.
I will highly recommend it to my friends and family.

Overall excellent tour exactly as advertised. We comfortably traveled in a 12-passenger air conditioned van. Our guide, Eliseo, was an excellent communicator and possessed great knowledge of the Mayan people and ruins. Bottles of cold water were available at no charge. Four hours total time.

Friendly tour guides. Went in a passenger van with about 16 seats. All seats in the van were filled, with our baby riding on a lap.

Mayan ruins are an experience to remember. Well maintained with an easy walking path to several sites to admire.
An added highlight was seeing spider monkeys playing high in the trees near the ruins.
Two things to note. You will not be able to allowed to walk-up more than several steps on the ruins for a picture. Also plan for an hour drive from port pickup area to ruins drop off.
Adam_B –
The tour groups are small enough that each family can get a group shot without anyone else in the picture or feeling rushed. There are 3 temples to see along with a sacrificial alter.
Our bus driver stopped by a roadside stand and we got some golden ripe bananas and pineapple. When we got back to Mahahual we went to the beach for an hour.
Excellent way to spend the day in Costa Maya! Thank you Victor

Great time! We got off the ship and easily found the tour one block outside the gate as instructed. We travelled 30 mins or so to the ruins in a sprinter van with other tourists. Our tour guide did a wonderful job of explaining Costa Maya to us and was clearly an expert on the Mayan Archeological Site and he taught a lot about local vegetation and wildlife as well. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There are bathrooms at the Tour building as well as at the parking lot/shopping area as you arrive at the ruins, all clean and well kept. The shopping area by the site is full of cool finds related to what you see on your walk around the site. Great walk for families with young kids! There are some high steps on some of the ruins that would be difficult for some to scale but I still think its absolutely worth the trip even if you couldn’t go up this small part, or if it took you a little longer to navigate it. Its AMAZING! Take this tour, you and your family will enjoy it 🙂
