What a great little tour. Joshua the tour guide was very friendly, pleasant, and had a sense of humour. I happened to be the only one booked for the tour and another guide Kelly came along. Really enjoyed the casual nature of the tour and that the art piece wasn’t pretentious – I am not an artist but I love looking at beautiful images. A large part of the tour was wandering down back alleys looking at a wide variety of incredible murals and chatting about them. It was really interesting hearing some of the artists’ stories but also interpreting them ourselves. One of them even received some notoriety when Banksy acknowledged the artist.
I am a local and I wasn’t aware of the great venues supporting local artists these days, like the Beaumont Studios, which was the first stop on the tour, and the City Motel. The Beaumont Studios features a diverse group of artists everything from sound masters to Japanese Calligraphy, to potters to painters to a really dark steampunk artist who has his pieces in some of the common areas. It is also home to For Pete’s Sake an independent coffee roaster. Tucked away in the corner with vintage guitars on the walls for decoration this was a definite hidden gem. All the coffee is roasted on site in small batches and available for sale and tasting. Pete developed his mix after years of testing to create just the flavour and smell he was looking for. Coffee is available hot or as a cold brew. I’ve never liked cold brew before, but his was wonderful. A bonus for me was he had oat milk available for the hot coffee which was great because I don’t do dairy. What was exciting about this business is he is about to take it on the road and bring the first electric bike-powered espresso carts to Vancouver. The carts were imported all the way from Italy!!!
I had just said to Joshua that the only thing that would make this tour better was chocolate and low and behold we walked by a new business – Daniel’s Chocolate – not on the tour but we decided to check it out. What a hidden gem. They make their incredible chocolate right on site. Joshua was headed back to talk with Daniel after the tour. Fingers crossed that it can be added to future tours!

What a great tour! Such a fun idea to enjoy the best coffee in Vancouver (Honest to Pete!) and learn about some of the street murals and other local artists. Amy was a FANTASTIC tour guide. She made the tour very personal and included both of our kids (our teenager that LOVES coffee and our 11 year old that enjoys art but could care less about coffee). This is a great tour to allow you to see more of Vancouver. Enjoy!
