My husband and I are are in our late 60’s and 70’s. I was thinking a w90 minute walking tour might not work but how wrong was I. The tour guides are volunteers and absolutely committed to ensuring everyone has a special time. We would particularly like to thank Rob for the care he took to make sure we had a wonderful experience, by allowing us to go at a steady pace and give us commentary on all the points of interest so we didn’t miss out. He even passed us on his way home and stopped to check we were ok and wishing us a happy rest of our holiday. Thanks Leonie and Ian.

This circular walking tour explores all aspects of this modern event stadium. Commencing from the main entrance, it took us around the public entry galleries, down through the spectator seating & onto the synthetic pitch perimeter. Groundsmen were preparing the grass playing surface for the first game of the Australian Football season. Down further to the visitors change rooms, then up to the original commemorative entry gates. Along further, a special treat, into the large, original & still used timber scoreboard. Mechanical pulleys, electric light indicators & all. The next modern grandstand incorporates some original stone arched walls clad with grapevines. It also houses the impressive Sheffield Shield Room. Upstairs we saw one of the private glazed spectator boxes, which provides important funds for running the Oval. After the full circuit our excellent volunteer guide returned us back to where we started.

It was a terrific opportunity to wander around our magnificent Adelaide Oval. To be a tourist in our home town. I had done the tour previously a few years ago but was very happy to do it again as we visited different parts of the oval and different features were highlighted. Great experience for the young and not so young.
