Asahiyama Zoo

If you’re planning a trip to Japan, Asahiyama Zoo should definitely be on your list of places to visit. Located in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, this zoo is known for its unique animal habitats and exhibits, which allow visitors to get up close and personal with some of the world’s most fascinating creatures.

One of the highlights of Asahiyama Zoo is the Penguin Parade, which takes place twice a day during the winter season. Visitors can watch as dozens of penguins waddle through the snow and interact with their keepers. The zoo also has a large Arctic animal exhibit, featuring polar bears, Arctic foxes, and reindeer.

Another popular attraction at Asahiyama Zoo is the “Asa-Pa” tunnel, which is home to several species of primates, including chimpanzees, orangutans, and gibbons. The tunnel allows visitors to walk through the exhibit and observe the primates as they play and interact with each other.

Asahiyama Zoo is also known for its unique viewing platforms, which provide visitors with a different perspective on the animal exhibits. For example, the “underwater tunnel” allows visitors to see penguins swimming and playing underwater, while the “glass dome” offers a panoramic view of the zoo’s polar bear exhibit.

If you’re visiting Asahiyama Zoo during the summer months, be sure to check out the “Splash Time” show, where sea lions and seals perform acrobatic tricks and stunts. The zoo also has a large outdoor exhibit featuring Hokkaido’s famous Yezo deer, as well as a petting zoo where visitors can interact with goats, sheep, and other small animals.
