So important to experience Doi Suthep but anyone considering it should understand the drive to get there is a very windy road. We had planned to do the 300+ steps from the entrance but opted for the cable car to reach the top after the tough drive to get there. Our guide was about 10 minutes late to pick us up, then we had to stop for gas (not sure why this was not done before picking us up). He was very friendly but his accent made him difficult to understand. We had to piece together some of his stories from the phrases we could understand and still feel like we missed quite a bit. Even though it’s called a Night Tour, we arrived at the first temple, Wat Umong, when it was still light out. A few tweaks and this tour would be excellent because Doi Suthep is so spectacular.

It was stunning to see the sites by night, cooler weather, no crowds. Our guide was clear and thoughtful.

The guide, Job, was a complete jerk. The driver alone could have done the job without this guide who didn’t know about the wats or Buddhism, and he left us on our own to explore. Not just that, he was getting upset with the tourists and criticizing them. A no no for any tour company.

The tour was excellent! Mr. Chin knew a great deal about Chiang Mai and the history of the places we visited. He was very enthusiastic and he was a fun guy. The driving was safe and comfortable. Mr.Chin made sure everyone understood everything we saw. It’s nice to see the place at night, gorgeous and gleaming! It turned out to be a nicer tour than we thought!

Unfortunately this did not live up to the hype. Our guide didn’t give us a lot of information about the temples, and rather just offered to take photos. We didn’t learn much at all about either of the temples we visited. We left wanting more background/history of the places we visited. Additionally, pickup was very chaotic. We were in the van for 1.5 hours before we even left the city. We wasted a lot of time driving in circles and returning to hotels where other members missed their pick ups. Throughout the entire tour we spent more time in the car than at the sites.

Note that this is not a sunset tour; you’ll leave the city when the sun is setting.
Wat Umong wasn’t really lit up. It was brief visit to the very small tunnel system but still nice to visit.
Wat Phra That Doi Suthep was lit up and more impressive. The view of the city was breathtaking and my pictures do not do it justice.
For the price, it was worth it to see the temples at night; different from the day experience. V, our guide was informative and entertaining. A very windy drive up, and down, to Doi Suthep.
If you didn’t want to go back to your hotel, they accommodated passengers in dropping off in different areas of the city.

Seeing Doi Suthep lit up at night was a fantastic experience and the panoramic view of the city was amazing.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. We really enjoyed visiting the temples at night. It was a smooth ride up into the mountains and we caught a beautiful view of the city. It’s a must do!
Carmen_J –
Loved the tour. Knowledgeable guide who shared interesting information. He was fun and made sure everyone felt included in the group. A bonus for solo travelers.
Everything about the tour was as advertised. Excellent value for the price.

Pick up was late. The guide spent more time talking at one location and gave us less time at the two Wats so we were rushed for taking pictures or enjoying the area. I enjoyed seeing the city at night but would have preferred to spend more time at Doi Suthep.
Edmond_H –
Great tour very informative with a good guide and 2 different stops
We had a cable car ride, time to explore alone, well organised

Pleasant trip. Interesting to see the tunnels, even though they are man made. Views from the top of the mountain over looking Chiang Mai were excellent. Wat Umong was beautiful.
The guide spoke excellent English and was very informative.
Walker_B –
Terrible tour. Guide got lost picking up guests. Little time at 2 Wats, minimum information limited interaction. He seemed not to know very much at all. Not back to hotel til 9.15(vs 8.30 promised. One of most inefficient and useless tours I’ve experienced.

Fan, our guide was great. He was so knowledgeable and informative. Love that he had a laser pointer to point at everything he was explaining and he had a flashlight which helped at the first temple. Dii suthep is so beautiful all lit up at night and the view of the city was lovely.
You are provided plenty of time at each temple. Night time wad perfect in it wasnt crowded and was nice and cool.
Little tip: i would say take some Dramamine/Bonine or ginger chews for the ride up to suthep. Itz really windy and though our driver took his time, u still could feel.

Group tour was very well priced and the experience of seeing this temple was incredible. Guide spoke English well

The only reason I would recommend this is that this is the best time to visit; at night with no crowds. Our tour guide Job was friendly enough but he needs to brush up on his facts and general knowledge. I asked him 3 questions: what year was the earthquake in Thailand?, what year was the Buddha in the tunnel carved?, and how many monks live at Wat Umong? These were not tough questions but obviously “off script”. I stopped asking questions as it was clear he didn’t have answers. He really should be more well informed about the places he’s taking us to other than the basic facts that are part of the tour script. Also, he said he would tell us more about Buddhism – which I was really looking forward to hearing about – once we walked thru Doi Suthep but he didn’t. The sites were amazing, the bus driver was safe, and overall it was worth it.
Bill_h –
Great to view these two sites. Only problem was the tour guide’s English was limited which allowed him to provide only bullet points on the sights we visited. Not able to give depth to details.

Stunning Tour! Beautiful to see at night, made it feel extra special and Bee or tour guide was great ;)) Thank you for a super fab time!
Derek_G –
It was nice to see the temple by night, but the tour wasn’t my favourite. It was hard to understand the tourguide sometimes.

I will get the bad stuff out of the way first. The first hour of this tour was spent trying to rendezvous with a family who were driving from the airport. I can appreciate the tour operator wanting to get the revenue from the family of 5 but I think the experience was spoiled for the rest of us with all of the driving around the old city and phone calls. By the time we got to Doi Suthep the temple was closed so we couldn’t go in.
Q, the tour guide shared a lot of good information. Not his fault but the power at Wat Hmong did not return until after we had exited this temple “tunnel”. We had to navigate using light from our cel phones.
I do have to say Doi Suthep at night was beautiful and magnificent. So I am very happy we got to see that and take some brilliant photos.
Perhaps don’t accept tour reservations from people who can’t make it to the rendezvous timely.

Great experience. Very good guide. Different experience of temples since this is during the night, with amazing night city views! Highly recommend!
Lisa_B –
The sweet tour guide that was so very knowledgeable. Beautiful temple. Wonderful drive up to the countryside.
Sheldon_S –
The views on the river, the entertainment and the food was all very good. We had a table just for us which made it romantic as well.
Anne_s –
Beautiful view of temples at night and view of the city. Met some other travelers. Easy pick up and drop off at hotel. Easily switched our date.
Richard_H –
The guide was funny and knowledgeable. He made sure to spend most of the time at Doi Suthep. Wat Umong is really just a stop on the way to the star attraction.
Anita_P –
Lovely excursion for short stayers in Chiang Mai. Doi Suthep temple is beautiful and its much nicer in the evening. The view top is stunning! You will enjoy
Devi_R –
Seeing the temple all lit up and the view of the city below were the highlights. The guide was very friendly
Kate_C –
The tour guide was very nice and helpful. The bus was air conditioned and it was a lovely way to spend the evening.
Rahul_N –
Tour was worth it. I was the first one picked up, so had to spend 1 hr picking up other folks along the way.
