Why you’d like this tour

  • Wineglass Bay from above: The aerial view of Tasmania’s famously white sands is the kind of photo you can’t get from the ground.
  • Two icons in one outing: Fly over Freycinet National Park and land on Maria Island for an on-the-ground experience.
  • Wildlife + history: Maria Island is described as a mix of tranquility, natural beauty, rare wildlife, and fascinating history.
  • Local produce lunch: A bountiful Tasmanian picnic (gourmet seafood platter) with Tasmanian premium white wine.

What to expect

The tour departs daily from Cambridge and heads along Tasmania’s East Coast, flying towards and over the Freycinet Peninsula.
Freycinet National Park (established in 1916) is described as home to dramatic pink granite mountains, secluded bays, crystal-clear waters, and pristine white beaches —
including Wineglass Bay, one of Tasmania’s (and arguably Australia’s) most iconic beaches.

From Freycinet, you’ll fly over the seal colony of Île des Phoques before continuing to Maria Island, where you land and begin a guided exploration
of the island national park.

On Maria Island, the experience includes time to wander through forests of magnificent blue and white gums (some over 400 years old and unique to the island),
and to visit Fossil Cliffs with shellfish fossil beds described as unlike any other in the world. The island is also presented as a wildlife haven,
home to rare and endangered species like the Swift Parrot and Cape Barren Goose, plus wombats, kangaroos, and the
Tasmanian Devil.

While you take in the scenery and wildlife, your guide prepares a picnic lunch (gourmet seafood platter) with Tasmanian premium white wine, enjoyed with views over the
northern end of the national park. After your time on Maria, you board the aircraft again and return to Hobart.

Who it’s suitable for

  • Short-stay visitors in Hobart who want a “big Tasmania moment” without committing to a full day on the road.
  • Nature and wildlife fans (Maria Island’s wildlife is a headline feature).
  • Photography lovers chasing the classic Wineglass Bay aerial perspective.
  • Couples and friends who like premium, local-produce experiences with a scenic payoff.

Note: the activity requires at least 2 people (either 2 adults or 1 adult + 1 child).

What to bring

  • Weather-ready layers: island conditions can feel cooler and windier than Hobart.
  • Comfortable walking shoes: you’ll be exploring Maria Island on foot.
  • Camera/phone + battery: you’ll want power for aerial shots and wildlife moments.
  • Any dietary notes: if seafood isn’t your preference, the listing asks you to inform the local operator directly (details provided after booking).

Closest towns & cities for planning

  • Hobart (meeting point is in the city at 20 Davey St)
  • Cambridge (flight departs from the Cambridge area / Cambridge Aerodrome transfer)

The tour itself overflies the Freycinet Peninsula/Wineglass Bay region and lands on Maria Island, but the stated pickup point is Hobart and departure is Cambridge.

  • This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.
  • Minimum of 2 participants required for the activity to operate.
